Absolutely RP. Before the game I didn't put much stock into gameplanning, but it appears it really is an important facet of the game.

It was telling to hear Nick Collins say that they ran basically the same gameplan as week 17, and then for Capers to say that Plans A, B and C weren't working.

It's disappointing, but I'm putting it more on Capers than McCarthy. That pseudo-sleep also doesn't sit right with me.

You don't go into back to back weeks with the exact same gameplan. You need to make adjustments and the Packers didn't. I also think, looking at week 17, Green Bay should of known that Arizona was going to play "vanilla". The moment Kurt Warner came out of the game is the moment the Packers should of just called that game like a preseason game.

While watching week 17, I thought our defense did look vanilla. I didn't see anything exotic about it. It didn't look anything like what I seen say in week 1. I didn't see players moving up, side to side during pre snap. It seemed stationary as if to say , hey here i am, here i come.

That didn't bother me. What bothered me was seeing the same thing in the wild card game. I thought maybe the Packers were trying the rope n dope hoping the Cardinals would tire themselves out.

We definitely got outcoached somewhat, but we also got "out personnelled". We didn't have an answer on D for those stacked receiver sets, which was good coaching on the part of the Cards, but it was more an issue of personnel, not scheme. Bush and Barnett covered the same guy at least 5 times that I can remember leaving another receiver running wide open in the middle of the field. No matter the scheme, if the players don't execute it, it won't work, and ours didn't. I'm not even going to mention the terrible tackling.

To agree with Raider Pride: I honestly think we got fooled in week 17 and the cards went out of their way to hold back. That loss got them fired up for the playoffs. No matter how much MM says otherwise, I think the pack were complacent for the game.

As for the saints, if there is one rule in football is that we cannot make any basis of comparison based on another game. If Cards>Pack and Saints>Cards, football says nothing about whether pack>saints or otherwise.

That being said, I think player for player, we match up well against the saints. And I think we would have been more prepared than we were against the Cards.

It has been a week since the loss.

I have had enough time to reflect on it with out allowing my emotions to effect any comment I might have made Last Monday. In other words, I followed the 24 hour rule times six.

After watching the Cards play today... I have come to a conclusion that the Packers were out coached last week in Arizona.

I think Mike made a mistake in the week between the two back to back games.

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR: I think Mike is a very good coach. I am happy with what he has accomplished, I think the 6-10 season was a direct result of the Brett Favre Fiasco, and all of the turmoil that came with it.

I just think Mike and Capers who Mike over-sees made a mistake, as we all do in life. I think it was a learning experience for him.

Four times during the game today (Which The Cards Were Killed) I kept hearing that Warner had said: "He did not see anything he did not expect when he came under center against the Packers last week."

"I knew exactly what they were going to do."

This was double hard on me, as it was the exact same thing Tampa Bay said about the Raiders when Tampa Bay beat them in the Super Bowl. The year after Gruden left the Raiders to go to Tampa Bay.

I do not think the Packers lost last week... I think they lost last weeks game the week before in the final game of the season. I think they showed them too much, or did not do enough to change things up from week 15 and 16 depending on what film Warner was studying

I am confident the Packers are going to be an elite team next year. 14-2 13 -3 I expect that. I see five years ahead of this team that will include two Super Bowls at least.

But I also think , they could have won the Super Bowl this year if they would have won last week. I think that would have started the ball rolling.. and the players would have been on a roll.

But a mistake was made.

A mistake that will be learned from.

Think you have hit the nail right on. Perhaps a review of the 49'er game that also shut down Warner should have been a top prioity anhd don't ever again show all your cards as did GB's defense in the week before the play-off game.

I don't buy this. The Cards had 15 other weeks of film footage to study. It's not like suddenly, the Packers are going to do things they've never done before.

By the Playoffs, your cards have been shown. It's all about execution. Our O executed. Our D didn't.

ya I agree - but I blame part of it on the refs ... ya I do.

Our O was just plane awesome ... too bad about the first 2 turnovers thou ... Still cant believe we came back and then they missed the game winning FG.

Honestly I would of cared less about losing to the saints (they are a good football team). We deserved that win vs the cards.

Im still a bit sad we lost but I am at peace with things ...

i think today's saints/cards match-up just proved what many of us suspected after last week's game - if we would have blitzed more and gotten real pressure on warner he wouldn't have been able to tear us apart so easily. I really wish i could find the source but i remember reading somewhere that capers blitzed somewhere in the area of 5% of the time.

"rodgehodge" wrote:

I forget where I heard this (pretty sure it was during the wild card game), but during one telecast the analyst said that when the quarterback shows he can get rid of the ball and find an open receiver, then Capers decides to blitz even less (which to me personally is almost playing into the QB's hand). It happened during both games against Minnesota and during the wild card game.

This seems pretty accurate and what we don''t need is a defense that gets worse against critical opponents.
