Revis got, what, 22 first place votes? I wonder why they're not talking about that over at ganggreen.com... oh right, because sports writers are dumb and don't know the game, and that's why Revis got cheated out of the AP DPOY award.

Funniest thing is that Revis isn't crying about it. He congratulated Charles, said he deserved it. It's his fat coach and the fans that are doing all the crying.

Gentlemen;

Take a look at the statistics of some of wide receivers that Revis went up against.

Terrell Owens? In his two match ups against Revis , he was held to three catches for 13 yards and three catches for 31 yards, respectively.

Randy Moss? Four catches for 24 yards and five catches for 34 yards against Revis.

Andre Johnson? He was held to four catches for 35 yards while going up against Revis.

Marques Colston? Against Revis? Two catches for 33 yards.

Steve Smith (the Carolina Panthers)? ONE catch for five yards.

Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, and Chad Ochocinco, just to name a few of the other great receivers who Revis has shut down this season.

Each week, he took away some team's best receiver. Darrelle Revis is the one corner back in football who can single cover any receiver and shut them down.

How are stats like tackles, forced fumbles, and interceptions to be in Revis's favor when he's doing such a great job of covering his man that quarterbacks refuse to even look in his direction?

How can you make a tackle, force a fumble, or pick a pass off when the ball isn't being thrown in your direction and the receiver you're covering isn't making catches?

Last week in the Jets' playoff game against the Bengals, Carson Palmer, was not even looking in the direction of Ochocinco/Revis because he was so well covered.

Now what did Ochocinco do against Woodson? He was held to four catches but for 91 yards. And he also had a touchdown.

What did Woodson do against Hines Ward?, he was burned. Seven catches for 121 yards.

The only receiver this season who had more than 35 yards receiving against Revis was Ted Ginn Jr. of the Dolphins, who had two catches for 57 yards.

The Associated Press gave this award to the wrong player. What's even worse is that this wasn't even a close vote. The fact that Woodson had twice the amount of votes is an insult to Darrelle Revis and the season he had.

If the Associated Press writers made their votes based on the bare bones numbers of tackles, sacks (Darrelle Revis is not a blitzing corner), forced fumbles, and interceptions, then they were not doing their job.

Darrelle Revis is the definition of a shutdown corner, which is a rare breed these days in the NFL. To not allow more than 35 receiving yards per game, with the exception of one game (the most he allowed was 57 yards), is an impressive feat.

Nobody even sniffed 100 receiving yards against him.

This years award was given to Woodson in the form of a lifetime achievement award seeing that he has maybe two years left. If he stays healthy, Revis will eclipse all of woodsons stat numbers.

Your central premise is erroneous. This year, opposing quarterbacks threw at Revis more times than against the next two Jets cornerbacks combined. I believe the number was 116 times to Revis against 103 times against the next two put together.

We have had 2 of the best shutdown corners over the last 3-4 years. Woodson and Harris were both shutdown. Now that Woodson proved everybody wrong that said they couldn't play zone, now they are coming out and saying he is not a shutdown guy.

Make up your mind people. Revis had a very good year, So did Woodson. the entire career award is garbage. Woodson had the best year of his career statistically and the best year in the league statistically. How is that make it a career award?

Revis could be a special player. He needs to learn to support the run instead of dancing around away from the play with Moss and TO.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Good. I hope Revis does feel snubbed. The stats are not accurate for Woodson either. He did not go single coverage on the receivers mentioned in an earlier post on every single play. You can not look at the receptions/yards of a WR and pin them all on Woodson.
As you said Revis does not blitz. That is one more reason to say Woodson is the more valuable player. He can do more things than Revis which attributed to the award. Woodson, defends against both the run and the pass, forces fumbles, interceptions, returns them for TDs and rushes the QB. Revis defends the pass. Give me an all around player who does it all and does it well any day of the week.

here is another thing - maybe one of the reasons revis was so good was because the jets rushing was so much better then ours ...

If a QB is put under pressure to throw or has hardly any time to throw then hes not going to make many throws or they will be inaccurate.

Im sure we can all attest to the fact that capers did not bring the type of pressure on opposing QBs that we thought he would. Better then last season yes; but if you look at pass happy teams - MN, cards, pit - we hardly put their QB under pressure.

Woodson deserved the award. He was the star of our defense. Without him we would of never gotten to the playoffs.

again maybe those receivers you mentioned didnt catch many passes is because there was a jet defender bearing down on him.

cudos to the jets D ... 1st in pts 1st in yards 1 in pass yds 8th in rush ...

Again, the award is not Shutdown Corner of The Year.

Revis is a terrific cover corner - possibly the best since Deion Sanders, depending on how his health holds up. I haven't heard a single person say otherwise.

Woodson played better ALL-AROUND. He tackled more. He created havoc and confusion. He created turnovers, whether by the INT or forcing fumbles. He got sacks. He did every single thing you can do on defense, and he did it exceptionally well.

Woodson was not the best cover cornerback this year, Revis was. Woodson was absolutely the Defensive Player of the Year.

Scoreboard. Revis knows it - he isn't pissed about this, fans are.
