Sell, with three exceptions.

Tauscher -- I was wrong here. I thought he would be questionable in his return, and he's looked much like the Tauscher of old, the one who was one of my favorite players.

Sitton and Lang are keepers. Proof, to me at least, that Thompson, et al are getting better at evaluating OL talent.

But the rest? We can, and must, get better. Colledge is, IMO, a solid backup, and so is Wells. Neither should be starting. And the rest of our backups? Well, thanks but no thanks. And that includes Spitz, who, IMO, is the most overrated in Packerland of all our OL.

Zombie's point about Pittsburgh winning Super Bowls with a mediocre OL is of course true. And I think Rodgers/Driver/Jennings is better than Rothlisberger/Ward/Holmes. But I'm still convinced that's success with mediocre OL is the exception rather than the rule. That while it may no longer be "defense that wins championships" as it used to be, defense will still tend to win championships when the other side has a mediocre OL.

I like the way this team has looked most of the last several weeks, and that includes the OL. But I'm not convinced they'll hold up when they hit the playoffs.

I predicted one-and-done if we made the playoffs. And I'm sticking by that prediction.

While New Orleans, Philly, Arizona, and, especially, the Vikings, have shown they have some weaknesses, I still think they're better teams right now than GB is. And while any-given-Sunday means the Packers might pull off one victory, there's no way they pull off three.

And I called for multiple picks/major FA/trade action for OL. And I'm sticking by that, too.

Sell.

Sell. This O-line isn't going to stop the Eagles blitzes. This O-line isn't going to stop Ware, effectively. Allen, we might. I have confidence Clifton, it's just the creative blitzing I'm afraid off. We'll see if we can them up. I'm selling for now.

Scott Wells is outstanding at making adjustments. Brandon Jackson has been phenomenal too, he's really developed in that area. Green is a vet who seems to know his role, and seems to have embraced it.

One of the last things I'm worried about is blitz pick-up. Put short: that has not been a problem this year.

Are we talking about this season, or going forward to next season?

This season.

Going into the playoffs, I'll buy.

Wells has been solid. Lost the starting position, but was still ready.

+4

Cliffy and Taush are vets. They can flat out play. They've lost a step with age, but lets be honest: they are vets that just flat out know how to play. Their technique is good, they have the experience to adjust when beaten initially. In terms of cut blocking, they will be a problem, but our strength is passing. Those guys can pass protect.

+5

At Guard, I love Sitton. Reading a lot of day after tape breakdowns from Pellisero and McGinn, its obvious that Sitton has been our best linemen. Strong. Mean. Big. He's done a good job of run blocking, and shown some savvy in knowing how far he can hold onto players' jerseys on the second level without getting flagged.

+5

My only problem is Colledge. Too inconsistent. Doesn't get the push you'd like a G to consistently get. When he's on top of his game, he is only above-average at best; rarely (if ever) dominates. If he is having a bad day, we will be in trouble.

+5

But another important facet of our blocking will be Tight Ends (and RBs, too). But the tight ends outside of J-Mike will have to step up, because they've been average on their best days. Havner has been missing blocks, and Lee has been responsible for quite a few "bad" runs the past few weeks according to McGinn.

+6 --- Awesome (and often overlooked) point

Both of them have to step up, and be consistent.

-3 for conceding a previous error in judgement :thumbleft:

+3 for the "proof" part

But the rest? We can, and must, get better. Colledge is, IMO, a solid backup, and so is Wells. Neither should be starting. And the rest of our backups? Well, thanks but no thanks. And that includes Spitz, who, IMO, is the most overrated in Packerland of all our OL.

+5, even though I personally disagree with the Spitz statement, at least you are "getting" how the game is played.

+6 that is elaborating...

nothin for that

And I called for multiple picks/major FA/trade action for OL. And I'm sticking by that, too.

+6 for this one.

Sell.

Included in the plus 4

On the surface might appear to be off-topic, (bringing in the RB's) but an integral part of our o-line equation, and bolstering the Wells adjustment comment.+2

This thread definitely beats what I'm supposed to be doing right now, which is paying the pill of bills on the dining room table. (Unfortunately, I've "bought" too many non-OL things in recent months. 🙂 )

First of all I don't know why there would still be skepticism and "hold outs" in what this 0line can do considering they have played several weeks like this and that includes some pretty heavy hitter defenses in Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

Secondly, I am still mystified that people dog the run game. I don't have the numbers in front of me but will just all but guarantee the Packers have run for more yards the last half of this season than the Vikes. All you hear about is AP and how prolific they run the ball and yet we are now running for more and a better average per carry as well.

I've been watching Peterson getting stuffed at the LOS repeatedly for a month now and and Grant is consistantly getting his 100. Just the other night this guy on the NFL Channel brought this up and said the Packers are looking stronger for the playoffs because Grant is getting better as the year goes on.

This is not the same 0line that started the year with Barbre and then when Clifton went down the problems we had over there AND the fact the communication from the Center on out to the RB is now picking up the blitzes.

I get what you're saying, but I feel like we have the 4 man rushes down right now. Tauscher is winning the individual battles on the right side. Clifton has been on the left, as of late. The guys in the middle have been pretty solid since the start of the season.

Thing is, though, we haven't faced anything like the Eagles and the last time we played the Cowboys, they got to Rodgers four times, with Ware coming in twice.

It's easily forgotten, though, because the defense carried us in that game.

The only two good blitzing and pressuring teams we've played since Tampa are the Cowboys, who pretty much got us, the Steelers, who appeared to be running a very Dom Capers-like scheme in that game and the Ravens without both Suggs and Rex Ryan.

I want to see us battle some NFC East teams again, who are build on getting and stopping pressure.

I remember that, at the start of the season, guys where coming unblocked pretty much once per game. Something that appears to have been improved when sliding Wells back in, so I'll give you that one. Blitz pick-up has been ok, but again, I'll have to see more than just this before I'm buying.

With the two cornerstones of this line playing well.. I would buy this line if they stay healthy.

I giggle a little when some doubted what Tauscher would bring to this line..

Anyway.. the only reason I sell on this current line for the remainder of this season is depth.. beyond Lang we have little to nothing.

Now.. going forward past this season.. we need to address some fundamental issues in growth with this group and that falls upon Campen.. but that falls outside the scope of this buy or sell.

Great thread.

BTW Warhawk.. everybody buried all the running game issues on Grant.. long long ago I learned a valuable lesson at a football camp.. no matter how talented the back is.. he ain't diddy doo without the horses ahead of him. OK.. maybe in the history of the NFL there has been an exception or two in Sanders and Payton. Maybe Brown.

Our Oline is not there. The good thing is we have an offense that can get past that, and combined with a great defensive game we could win without great blocking

I would prefer better though
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
