Rodgers obviously needs to lead the offense to more than 36 yards per game

Zero, they came into the fourth quarter down by double digits, after having scored zero points in the third quarter. Yes, they staged a comeback, and that's great, but it's very disturbing how many games the team has gone scoreless in the third quarter this year.

You shouldn't lose a game you score 36 points in. A top ranked defense shouldn't be giving up more than 17 points or so a game.

I sure won't be discrediting the effort of the offense picking up the slack that the defense was laying down by saying it was desperation mode bull. It's doing what has to be done to win the game!

With such a vastly depth vocab you possess, I would expect a better word choice than 'desperation'. I simply disagree with that. I think it was the team doing what it had to do to position themselves to win.

The defense played balls out. If the WRs catch those balls, and Crosby makes that FG, we win easily. And we'd beat the refs AND the Superbowl Champs in their house.
I don't put this on the defense.

You don't put this on the defense because you want to stir the pot. Damn, this route is getting overplayed by so many lately. "Look at me, I'm different!".

Balls out is NOT giving up over 500 yards passing.
Balls out is NOT giving up 37 points.
Balls out IS stopping a team with 2:06 left, and our defense failed to do that.

I give the front seven credit, but the secondary was terrible. Way to many Steeler receivers running wide open.

The offense scored 36 points. I don't care how or when they do it, that's enough to win in the NFL. More than enough.

I was thinking the WR were getting open because Ben kept extending the play.

No. It wasn't Ben extending the play. It was Dom Capers being a freaking idiot and rushing 3 people. Even with that poor excuse for an OL, the 3 people rushing gave Ben 5+ seconds. With Al Harris out, ANY of the top 15 QBs will find an open WR with 5+ seconds.

The thing that irks me the most (besides losing) is it completely wasted Aaron's spectacular effort. Now everything Aaron did in this game is just a footnote.

Big Ben exploited the Packers' weakness

The Steelers may have exposed a huge weakness in the Packers' defense by relentlessly attacking the middle of the field in the passing game. Ben Roethlisberger frequently targeted Hines Ward, Heath Miller and Rashard Mendenhall on an assortment of short crossers and option routes between the hashes. With the Packers intent on dialing up pressure with their linebackers and safeties, the increased use of crossing routes allowed Roethlisberger to get the ball to his playmakers while they were on the move. Roethlisberger also mixed in a few deep shots to keep the Packers from clamping down on the short routes.

-- Bucky Brooks

In response to what Zero2Cool said, I do blame the defense primarily for this victory. Giving up in excess of 500 yards represents a monumental collapse. I don't blame the offense. Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns and ran for another -- what more can you ask of the guy? But that doesn't mean I'm not going to be perplexed and concerned by our team's continual lack of production in the third quarter. As IronMan pointed out in another thread, the only game in which the Packers scored a significant number of points (17) in the third quarter was the second Vikings game, in which they entered that quarter down by three scores. I don't know who or what to blame for that, but responsibility ultimately does rest with Mike McCarthy.

Zero2Cool (9h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (9h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (12h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (13h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you
wpr (13h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (13h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (13h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (13h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (14h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (15h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
