What is still amazing to me is that they won the SuperBowl in the first place.

A lot of people hate on Big Ben, me included much of the time...

I still say that their accomplishment was quite amazing, and Big Ben is the reason why they were able to win it.

I know they had a fantastic defense, and I know the truism is, "defense wins championships", but there is one small rub to that truism...

It was invented in the first place by a defensive coordinator bucking for a promotion (semi-kidding, but not an original one-liner) ...and someone give me an example of one other team that was able to win a Superbowl with a bad, and I mean bad...offensive line. They did it. I have to give props to Ben for that.

They thought they could get away with getting rid of Faneca, and for a year...a magical year...they did. It was magical because his loss broke the straw on that o-line's back, and it was obvious then, and it is now VERY obvious.

My bottom line?

I am not surprised by the unprecedented nature of that 5 game losing streak and their apparent collapse this year. The recipe was in place.

Edit-Ha Dakota -same sentiment--I be typin', you be postin' lol

A #1 D + an average to good QB is all you need to win a SB.

Do I need to list my examples again? In the 2000s alone, Ben R won a SB with the absolute worst QB performance ever by a winning SB. Ever. The worst. Yet, they won because of their D.

Eli Manning, average to good QB. He's by no means an elite QB and actually led the NFL in INTs thrown the year they won the SB. Brad Johnson an elite QB? No. Good, but nowhere near elite. And Trent Dilfer? Real nice when your D only allows 10.3 points per game and you get to hand it off to Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes.

My word. I love how Big Ben gets all the credit when the Steelers D has been THE most consistently dominating Ds of the 00s, including being #1 4 freaking years in the 00s. I'd LOVE for the Packers to have the #1 D just once in a decade. But four years? Amazing. For the record, Favre has had the #1 D just once in his entire career. I'd love for Rodgers to play alongside the #1 D.

The only thing I hold against Big Ben is his choice of Las Vegas bootay. The man has millions of dollars and whole city full of fine showgirl and stripper tail and that's what he chooses (yuck). No wonder he gets sacked so much, he can't make a quick impulsive obvious decision.

He's an adequate quarterback I guess, but didn't Bradshaw get a lot more credit than he deserved as well behind a decade long #1 defense.

Ah. Good to see not everyone is in awe of Ben R. Now, I'm not at all saying he's a bad QB. I'm simply saying that all you need to win a SB is a #1 D and a average to good QB. That's it. History has proven this.

For the record, this is coming from someone who was trying to prove the "defense wins championships" cliche wrong. I did research trying to prove this cliche wrong and my research ended up proving it right. Defense wins championships. QB gets all the credit. Fair? No.

Well....i think AR is better then Ben Rothlishamburgler.
But until he wins "the big one", it doesn't matter.
Trent Dilfer has a SB ring for crying out loud.
