Hazer and Rock made this point in Packers Talk.

I thought it was interesting, valid, and brought a question to my mind that needed it's own thread in the NFL Talk section.

dhazer wrote:

"If Rodgers was drafted by the 9ers he would probably be close to out of football by now. No Qb could have went there and started right away and won. They had no one running or catching the ball and to top it off they kept changing their offensive scheme. Hell i don't think Manning or Brady could of gone there and won."

So... With "Thanks" to my friend Hazer and Rock.... Give them credit for this thread.

HERE'S THE THING.

Let's all agree with what Hazer wrote at least theoretically (As there is always exceptions.)

What would you all think? What would the NFL's reaction be?

If a bonafide Blue Chipper QB like Bradford. Locker, Clausen, Mccoy, or Tebow went into the draft and demanded.....

DEMANDED that they be traded to a team with a solid veteran QB that they could learn from for three or four years. What if they demanded they be set up to learn from one of the best so they could play the odds and have a longer more productive NFL Career in the long run?

What if that QB just stated.. Look. I appreciate the fact that Carolina wants to draft me, but I will not show up if they do... I love the game and want to learn from one of the best. I simply want to be drafted by a team with a QB that can nourish me, and then I can reward that team by being a franchise QB for the next 10 or 12 years.

How would you react to a QB who just plain came out and stated that after a great combine performance.?

Thanks for the thought Hazer... though Rock

Upon reading this, I am going to be interested in a decade how Aaron handles the relationship with his understudy?

Why you ask.. just to see how he deals with the window closing on his career compared to his mentor.

I'm lost RP where did the qb demand to be traded to another team? I bet Stafford would love to be sitting behind a Manning or even Favre for a year or 2 ( he still gets his big paycheck) compared to getting his ass beat up this year.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Anyway, I don't think that that scenario is too far fetched.

It's just that these kids like the money they're getting, as well. I mean, Matthew Stafford had been lobbying for the Lions to pick him for ages. They appear to see it as a great way to prove themself, turning a franchise around and all. And, like I said, the nice paycheck helps, as well.

If you have that guy who doesn't want to get picked, though, the NFL doesn't care that much, I think. They'll just roll with it at first. It happened before with Elway and E. Manning. even if it's because of different reasons.

As long as there won't be a big amount of rookies finally doing this, I doubt the NFL cares.

If they will, I think that there'll be some kind of new rule that you can't trade a draft pick after a selection, causing the rookies to either skip a year, going out of football and not getting any money, or just playing with your current team. Your choice.

Hazer... Perhaps I did not type this well.

What I am trying to state here... IS.

Let's say your are right. Smith is Drafted by the Packers and Arron is drafted by the 49ers... Now Smith is flourishing and Rodgers is almost out of football..

Now the point I am trying to make is...

What if in NEXT YEARS DRAFT... QB's demanded to be drafted by a team that would not put them in a starting situation where they could not learn and be subject to every thing Smisth has been subjected to?

That is a very real possibility... They change the rules...

That player would also have to have a agent who did not want to cash in on the first big contact, that would come with being a HIGH First Round QB Pick by a team that needed a starter.

Good point...

Ahhhhh ok gotcha now, Every once in awhile you get those qbs as Rock has stated but i really don't see it happening to much. Never know we are starting to see more players threatening to sit out if they are drafted by certain teams every year not just qbs. I think if the NFL puts a cap on what you can pay a rookie and make it more on performance things might change alot of players will want to goto the bad teams just so they can be on the field to make plays.

I always wonders what goes on in closed doors around draft time. You have to think there are players who simply refuse to go to certain teams. Whether it's the climate, the state of the franchise, or a variety of different reasons it has to happen to at least one player every draft. I'm also intrigued about the coming draft and how many players will refuse to be drafted by Al Davis or play for a guy like Tom Cable.

Would never happen because either:

1. The nfl teams would think he's some kind of a flake, draft him lower and end up costing the kid money.

2. It would limit the number of teams with that kind of opportunity. Most likely dropping the kid at least 5 spots in the draft to a team with more talent and an aging but good QB. This would cost him money.

3. Whoever drafts him, knowing that the kid "is requesting" he sit on the bench will use it as a bargaining tool when negotiating the contract. That would cost him money as well.

Bottom line, won't ever happen with a potential top 3 pick. All they care about is going as high as possible to get as much of that guaranteed bonus money as they can because they realize the likelyhood of them getting a second huge contract is very slim based on many previous examples.

Didn't John Elway do something similar? Shunned the Colts and then was picked up by the Broncos?

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
