Hey fellas! I'm Jim from St Cloud, MN. I'm new and here's my situation:

I'm sure there's a million posts about Brett Favre on here but please let me have this thread.

I'm a former Vikings fan. Brett Favre has made the Vikings impossible for me to like. I despise them now. He's an excellent player so that's not the problem here and nobody has to remind me of that. It's the way he worked his way on to the team and intentionally skipped training camp and intentionally fake retiring and so on. I don't have to go into detail because you know the story.

In trying to find a new team it has to be an organization I respect and could actually enjoy to follow. I figure you guys might hate Favre the most right now but I want to see if my thinking is correct so here's my questions:

How do you feel about Favre here in 2009?
How will you feel if he wins a Super Bowl?
Will you forgive him if you do not like him right now?
BAD EMAIL because the address couldn ot be found, or is unable to receive mail.

I will answer you honestly.

I think you should root for your Vikings, regardless of how Brett was secured by that team. I understand some of what you feel, lord knows you are right about us having examined the issue, but bottom line, these are good times to be a Vikings fan.

If you opt to switch allegiances, of course you are always welcome here. It will be hard, though, because some of our biases would probably be a source of irritation for you. I happen to have some perspective about that as a member of a Vikings forum.

As far as Brett goes...

I am in a minority here. I don't (nor did) care that he went to the Vikings, other than the impact on that team itself. I was looking forward to playing a team with him on it. I'm not happy with the result, but at least I saw it.

If Favre wins a Super Bowl I will be glad for the handful of Vikings fans I do like. Some of those folks are members here, btw. I will miss having the "failed to win a Super Bowl smack-talk in my reportoire, but I will probably replace it with "Now what are ya gonna do?" smack-talk with my Vikings acquaintances (When Favre has his next retirement speech)

I think most have "forgiven" him already. Like I said, as far as him going to the Vikings, there really wasn't much to forgive. We are almost universally thrilled with the QB we have... The beef has been about how he (Brett, I call him Barney--The purple dinosaur reference) went about his business when he retired from here. Can you imagine? Fans upset with how Barney "rolled"?

I have a friend who was a life-long Redskins fan. He started buying two season tickets when he was 12 years old from some of the proceeds from his Washington Post paper route. That was 42 years ago that he first made that purchase. He quit his season tickets (and fandom)this past off-season. Dan Snyder did him in. I asked him what team he was going to root for. He said he couldn't pick the Pack because of our relationship over those years--too much smack back and forth--just not in his heart-- (Something I suggest you factor in.) He told me he chose the Saints.

I called him a fair-weather fan. He's 54. Something to consider. :thumbleft:

I agree with Foster. It's hard to just switch teams and it'll hit your credibility. I'd stick with the Vikes. And that's not because I don't want you here.

In the end, it's not Favre's team, it's a team that as Favre on its roster. I know that this one goes deeper than just some regular player, but dp you really want to abandon the Vikings organization over this? The franchise you love and rooted for for so long. Even if you want to put an asterik next to your SB victory, play-off run or wherever you're going, I think it'd be worth it.

If, after all that, you still think that you want to switch teams, go ahead. I think you'll be welcomed here by a lot of people, regardless of what team you'll pick.

To answer your question....

I do not feel too happy about what Favre did. We traded him, he's free to do what he wants, but the way he wiggled himself out of that Jets contract to get to the Vikings annoys me. Especially as a Packers fan.

I don't know how I'll feel if the Vikes win a Super Bowl. I don't feel that having Favre on that team will make it more sour or anything, though.

I don't like what he's done, but I will most likely forget about all the retirement sagas, late team switching etc. later on. I'm not angry about it, but it does pain you a little. I'm now still at the point that a punter wearing nr. 4 would sound like a pretty funny thing to do, though.

My thoughts are simple.. I still enjoy Brett for the player that he is upon the field.. after the past two years of Mickey Mouse PR Bullshit.. I have a greatly diminished respect for the man off the field.

I would have rather had him be honest about his motives in March of 08'... the I have nothing more to give emotional pulpit only to show up on late night a few weeks later and proclaim the openness to coming back was bullshit. I guess I sort of understand the "It has nothing to do with Ted or Mike" proclamation in being somewhat PC.. but screw it, be honest with this fan base that bleed your every single emotion for the better part of 2 decades. From there on.. it was a slippery slope of contradiction coming from Favre and Cook.. which is where the loss of respect for me comes from.

I call it the spade it is spade.. great player upon the field, a walking talking contradiction off it.

Personally I think he cracked under the pressure of all things falling upon him in Green Bay.. the shoes became too big for him and he wanted to escape. So be it.. I wish him personally good luck and thanks for all the memories.. He was another chapter in this storied franchises book. Nothing more.

To assist you in your quest... I have developed a lengthy self-test. Actually, it is only one question, multiple choice, but should instantly let you know if it is time to move on from Viking fandom.

Jared Allen is:

A-- An awesome talent with a fantastic sense of humor that plays the game the way it should be played, whistle-to-whistle. It is unfortunate that he is the target of so many cheap-shotting opponents and the referees. His personal business is none of ours. What an awesome leader.

B- I have it on good authority that he is drinking again, he was caught yelling out racial remarks this past off-season, at least that is what I heard and I believe it, he is quite possibly the dumbest fucking redneck mullet-headed asshole to ever play the game, and it is more than amazing that the league still allows this cheap-shot-artist crybaby bitch hypocrite to remain in this league.

Just an a and a b. That's all ya need. I guess you can figure out which is which, at least Packer fan-wise. :thumbleft:

My thoughts on Favre:
1. I think the only one who came out of Favregate looking worse was Mike McCarthy. I actually gained some admiration for Thompson (and I've never been much of a Thompson fan because of his OL ineptitudes and his approach to trades/FA, and I say this even though I think GB should, once they "moved on," let Favre go wherever he wanted). But I think Favre came out showing me, again, why it's silly for us to use pro athletes as models of character and example.
2. I hate the idea that Peyton Manning will likely break all his records.
3. I'm glad he's having a great season, even if it is with the Vikings. I still want the Vikings to lose every game, and I still hope for Favre to throw five touchdowns every game.
4. And I hate the way the media fawn over him. I actually hated it even when he wore green and gold.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I love that Favre's here.. But only partially because he's Favre. More so because he's a QB that can run this offense. Hell.. ANY QB that can run this offense.

If he helps the Vikings win a Super Bowl, I would love it. 100% because I get to enjoy the win and get to enjoy it with other Viking fans that have been cheering hardy for the Vikes since day one (including my dad and uncle). I would LOVE to see the looks on their faces, especially after they've experienced the 4 prior Super Bowl appearances..

I forgave him when he 'retired' from the Packers and then forced his way to a trade. My God, that was almost as good as the Vikes winning a Super Bowl. I was able to enjoy seeing Packer-Nation rip itself to SHREDS because of it. What a thing of beauty!

BTW, cheer for the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back. Because that's my motto since 2005 (Love Boat, anyone?), I can't bring myself to buy any players jersey with my own money (well.. I'll buy a bunch of Favre jerseys, but that's to spite my Packer-lover friends).

I lost alot of respect for Favre with his retirement antics, which were used to just get his way.
But i don't hate the guy.
I'll cheer for him when he gets into the hall of fame. But i won't cheer for him while he's a Viking. I hope he chokes away the Vikings first real chance at a SB win in a long time.
But if he does win it all, i will be happy for my Viking fan friends. But not for Favre.

Favre to me is just another player. Had I attended the Vikings game at Lambeau this year, I wouldn't have booed the Vikings any louder just because he was on the team. When the opposing team is announced, I boo them, regardless of who is on their team.

I don't think he is the God some make him out to be; and I don't think he is the anti-christ either.

NoTeam - Stand by your team unless they're a bunch of criminals.

I won't get into how I feel about Favre but I will tell you something about me. I'm a gambler. Every year, I put a lot of money down on football games. Before this season started, I knew Brett would unretire and come to the Vikings. I watched him on the Jets and saw he was still an ellite QB up until the injury, whereas it was painful to watch. I knew if he had surgery, he'd be close to 100% and a 40-year-old Brett Favre is still Brett Favre.

As a gambler, I don't care if the Packers are 0-16 the year before, I NEVER bet against my boys. So I put money on the Packers (25-1 odds) to win the SB. I also put money on the Vikings (8-1 odds) to win it all. It's because of all the NFL teams, the 2008 Vikings had every piece to win the big one except their QBs were bottom 5. You can win the SB with a top 20 QB, but not with a bottom 5 QB. (I'm also an amateur Historian).

So I put my feelings aside and put money on the team I think will win it all. This is the first year I put money on teams before the season started and I'd like to continue this tradition. But I almost always bet. I made big money on the Giants beating the Pats, lost big money on the Colts beating da Bears, and didn't bet on last year's SB.

Root for your team. They got the best chance at winning the big one since, well, ever. They're not going to win it with Tarvaris Jackson, that's fo shizzle. You can hate what Brett Favre did, that's fine. But how can you not love AP, Percy Harvin, and Jared Allen?
