In the second half of 2007 Grant was the most prolific running back.

Why is the running game of 2 years ago now so bad?

In 2008 we put it down to Grants injury and contract issue meaning he missed part of the off season.

But here we are in 2009, with a similar OLine and same back and the run game isnt working?

Why?

Go to the download section and download some of the videos from the 07 season and watch the holes Ryan Grant had. Its a night and day difference compared to this season.

Attitude might play into it as well. It's not uncommon for a player to slack once they get a big pay day.

I think the perceptions about the run game are a bit skewed. I can't say this enough: it isn't to our advantage to run the ball a bunch of times against Minnesota. It's a combination of a) the run game not being our strength and b) the run defense being EXACTLY Minnesota's strength.

C'mon, last week we ran the ball extremely well. It was against a bad run defense.

I think that provides a nice litmus test. We're not going to run the ball all the effectively against good run defenses (in part, again, because we don't see the value in playing into one of our weaknesses and one of our opponents strengths).

Let's wait until we have more than 7 games (wherein it seems we're either playing someone good or someone terrible) to make a determination about the run game.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Ehh, I don't know if I agree with the reference. After getting his big contract, Alexander had an injury season in '06. Then the Seahawks lost Hutchinson to Minnesota and Alexander inched closer to 30 years old (the magical age that nearly all RBs begin to falter). Injury season again in '07 for Alexander and he's never been the same.

Was thinking the same thing. He surely wasn't slacking in all his attempts when he tried to get resigned and with his short stint on the Redkins' roster. He was just done.

Yup. Seattle was a bit too late on giving him his payday, IMO.

Wrong guys. He just wasn't trying hard enough. He didn't have the right attitude.
