I was making a point. They formations are OBVIOUS!

Edit, here, maybe it wasn't so obvious so I'll say it like this. You can damn near guess the play BY what formation it is.
Formation 1 - 4 plays
Formation 2 - 3 plays
Formation 3 - 5 plays
Formation 4 - 2 plays

etc ... I'd rather LESS formations with MORE plays coming from each formation.

That's my point that I apparently sucked at getting through previously. I really need to do more work today. The more I post, the more jumbled they get.

Give me a formation that you can run, pass, and effectively throw a flea-flicker out of and I'd say that's the antithesis of obvious.

I'm with you in that we could add some more elements of unpredictability. I was merely pointing out that the inverted wishbone formation doesn't seem to be a problem. Counters, stretches, tosses, FB dives, slants, play-action, and flea-flickers. Lots of options.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Then let's use it more? I just don't like seeing two tricks out of each hat. I'd rather see more tricks out of less hats. That's all. Please? Pretty please?

Yesterday was not the day to run the ball. It was the day to pass, pass, pass, which is what the Packers did. Why? Because the Lions pass defense is total crap--literally one of the worst pass defenses ever in the history of the NFL. Also, the Packer passing game is way better than its running game. It would've been foolish not to play our strength against their weakness.

While I would love to see the running game get into a rhythm, you just can't afford to run the ball too much if you're not successful with it. This is the regular season. If you run too much without success, you wind up punting or getting into third-and-longs which can lead to turnovers. And then you just might end up losing, even to a bad team like the Lions.

There are a couple of good things I can say about the running game, anyway:

1. At least it is good enough--just barely--to make play-action effective.

2. In the two games in which the Packers have had to run out the clock--against the Rams and the Lions--the running game has been effective.

I agree with you ... when it's needed. We had the game controlled. Second half should have been run run run, in my opinion. Winning the Lions game was important, but getting our running game on track for the season is far more important. No, a good running performance against the Lions doesn't get our running game on track. ALTHOUGH I feel a good running performance gives confidence to the OL and Grant and reduces the hits on Rodgers.

thought it was a pathetically sloppy win against a broken-down, battered up version of an already shitty team. was certainly not a win i felt excited about. sure, i'll take it...but that's as emotional as i can get about it (beyond some of the fantastic plays by certain individuals like Matthews, Driver and Jennings).

on a related note: i thought that since we were 2-1 in our division that would put us up at the #2 spot in the NFC North after the Bears lost (lol) last night. can anybody explain to me why Nfl.com has us listed at 3rd? i can't figure this one out. :/

Packers are in second place over the Bears.
The sloppiness in this game was on the Oline. Get that cleaned up and we dominate, plain and simple. Don't get that cleaned up and Rodgers will be lost for the season.

My main point when it comes to running the ball is GB needs to do it in order to make defenses stay at home a little bit. By that I mean, not tee off on Rodgers. When you have an offensive line that can keep the QB upright, I'm okay with throwing the ball 40 times a game. GB doesn't have that luxury. They need some form of balance not only to benefit the team, but also benefit their QB.

My thoughts on the game were:

Clay Matthews - I am really impressed by him, seemed like he was always around the ball and making plays

The Secondary - While it was the Lions, it was nice seeing guys make plays on passes and be draped all over guys.

Tackling - Finally we seem some sure tackling out there. Collins hit was nice, and as the announcer said it was very clean.

ya funny about matthews ... when we traded our 2nd and two 3rd borns for the guy I wasnt thrilled.

Now ... I'm smiling when he takes the field. Raji on the other hand (who I wasnt really all that gun-ho for anyways) ... bleh. His 2 best plays came in the preseason vs the bills if that tells you anything. Hopefully his ankle will get better (Im taking my Oline and running play feelings out on raji here)

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
