NFL players get payed well.

NFL players who can frequently sack the QB get payed very well.

NFL players who frequently prevent the sack of the QB get payed extremely well.

You get the picture.

Sack are a critical part of the game. They end drives, plain and simple. They wipe away scoring opportunities. They lower morale, and shake confidence. Let look at the impact sacks had on the Bengals game.

The GB offense took the field 12 times on Sunday. CIN compiles 6 sacks. Here the breakdown each sack had on the game.

1st sack - A-Rod get sacked on first down. Pack go 3 and out.

2nd sack - A-Rod is sack while orchestrating the 2 minute drill. Sack leads to a missed 55 yd FG by Crosby.

3rd sack - A-Rod is sacked on down. He ends up piking up the first with a 15 yd scamper. Grant loses a fumble on the next play. CIN scroes on next drive to take the lead

4th sack - 12 min left. Sack leads to punt after GB picks up only two 1st downs.

5th sack - 8 min left. Sack leads to punt after GB picks up only one 1st down.

6th sack - 3 min left. Pack go 3 and out and punt.

Drive Breakdown
1. Punt.
2. Driver TD
3. Grant TD (small field provided by Woodson
4. Punt.
5. Sack and Punt.
6. Sack and missed FG.
7. Sack then Grant fumble.
8. Punt
9. Sack and punt.
10. Sack and punt.
11. Sack and punt.
12. Two minute drill leads to FG.
13. Time expires, false start fiasco, and Pack lose.

On the seven drives where we weren't sacked, we score 3 times. Not a bad ratio.

It seemed like the sack were especially critical in our loss yesterday. IT just seemed like they were impossible to recover from. After analyzing the data, I am sure that the sack we gave up and the sacks our D couldn't generate were the reason we lost.

I just wanted to share this in case anyone else thought it was interesting.

Miller - Agreed. We got sacked 6 times, which killed five drives. We registered two sacks.

We need to both generate more pressure and get sacked less, meaning Ted Thompson needs to get on the phone and fly in some OTs until we find one who can compete for a spot.

I still stand by saying Aaron is a top 5 QB. The way to stop a top 5 QB is to hold him down and not let him throw the ball, as we've seen first hand.

Aaron Kampman needs to start getting to the QB. He seems to not be that much of a presence in the pass rush. Our pass rush is mostly Jenkins, Jolly, and Matthews.

Actually, I'll defend Kampy - he's been around the QB quite a lot. He hasn't gotten to the QB, but he's flushing them into other players and keeping them from sliding to their right. He's also done very well in coverage (or as well as you can ask).

I'd love to see him get more sacks, but he's being very disruptive and making a difference, IMO.

Yeah I agree. Kampman's being used to bait a lot of the offensive linemen to pay attention to him, which in turn allows other players to make an attempt on the ball. When he rushed however I think he didn't perform the greatest this last game against the Bengals. But he's still getting respect from opposing players. When they dare shift their focus, thinking perhaps Kampman no longer has that pass rushing edge, that the trio of Jolly, Jenkins and Raji are too much to handle one-on-one, Kampman will make them pay.

I think at least half of these Rodgers had enough time to throw the ball away. I don't understand why he just took sack after sack. Throw the ball away!

I'll take the one that he took most critisism for.

He snaps the ball, the pressure gets there in no time. He's forced to scramble back as the DEs pinch him. He steps up and start running forward as far as he can, resulting in just a 3 yard sack.

There was not a single point in that play that he could throw the ball away. It was either this sack, an interception, intentional grounding or try to get to the outside to throw it away there, having quite a big chance on a 10 yard sack.

I agree with you millertime but almost all of his sacks were still in the pocket, so he can't just throw the ball the away.

beast (20h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
