Panic no....... but with it being a complete wash in every asset of our team where do you start to repair it? The o-line would be a good starting point but those special team gremmlins of last year have shown their ugly head also. We have to change the playbook to a true west coast style of play to keep the pressure off Arron. Quick slants...screens and 2 tightend sets for quick hitting 4 to 7 yard passes. Hell we have the best recieving corp in the league let them earn their cash with YAC.

I was panicking, now I'm not. I passed panicking awhile ago.

The defense isn't scaring me...I'm not impressed with our defense, mind you , but it at least looks fixable.

Everybody that is saying, well...all we gotta do is fix our o-line and....

I have a simple question. How in the hell are we going to fix it?

It's not panicking if there are damn good reasons to be freaking out...It's just being ahead of the crowd...

Fix?

Hide? Every play needs to have a safety vale for Rodgers, and if there's one already, that player needs to get open in the flat. They can't cover everyone and blitz everyone, that's just not possible. We have 6 blocking 4 and getting dominated. So instead of 6, use 5 and keep that extra one in the flat for a short pass.

After that happens enough, the rush will weaken which will open up other passes.

It's a chess match and we're getting out coached offensively.

"t's a chess match and we're getting out coached offensively."

Is that, the bad coaching is really offensive right now?

Two ways:
1) Attack with 3-step drops and short timing passes, which helps hide our OL deficiencies.
2) Ted Thompson needs to get on the phone and find some OTs to compete for a job. And MM needs to bust our OL coach's nuts. That guy right now gets a big ass FAIL.

There's a stark difference between panic and the realization that you have a glaring gap in a place where gaps are not good to have.

Defense will get better - as stated, the Bengals and Palmer play 3-4 defenses all the time - if anyone was going to expose our squad it'd be them. Raji will get healthy, people will get more assignment-sure. That's perfectly realistic.

Offensive skill positions are good - Grant isn't AP or anything, but with decent blocking he could provide respectable production, which would be plenty for Rodgers and the receivers.

The big glaring gap is on the O-Line. How they managed to look so stellar in the preseason is beyond me - hell of a bait and switch.

It needs to be fixed, and that's not panic talking - that's acknowledging that the team will go as far as the O-Line can take them, and at this point that's looking like nowhere.

Palmer and the Bengals played the Broncos last week. A 3-4 as well. They put up 7 points.

The Packers only play 4-3s, yet, they didn't carve up the Vikings last year. Although a little more practice against a 3-4 helps, I doubt that you can blame much of this loss on them knowing our scheme.

I'm starting to think Mike McCarthy is dead and his doppleganger is a retard. He hasn't done anything intelligent since '07, when he was one of the best and the brightest.

I don't blame it on them knowing our scheme - I'm saying that our team (pre-season evidence notwithstanding) is still learning that scheme, and a team with good experience playing against it (and a pro-bowl caliber QB) should be able to do what they did. It's not a pass or an excuse, it's just reality.

Put another way: I somewhat expected the Bengals to be effective on offense. I expected our DL to be more prominent, but otherwise I wasn't horrified at the defense. The offense failing - that surprised me.

But we've got a long day tomorrow. It will be hard to swallow, to watch the way this thing unfolded today, and hopefully we come back in, work tomorrow, watch film, and come in Wednesday ready to go. Because no team is going to lay down for us just because we have a new defense and we felt good about what we did in preseason and the first game. We have to be ready.

I think that's the problem. I think they believe that since they have a new defense, they all bought into it, and they did so well in the pre-season that everything is going to come easy. I wonder if they forgot that it took hard work and busting their ass off while playing smart to get that impression in the first place.
