The difference between Bob Sanders and Dom Capers is Dom actually knows what he's doing and his timing has been pretty good. Bob's lack of experience cleary showed at times as a DC. Dom OTOH is utilizing our LBs so much better, at least so far. We also have a pretty damn good coaching staff on the defensive side.

Doesn't a lot of this alos go against the argument of so many 3-4 detractors that we are actually tooled better for a 3-4 than a 4-3? We could never get pressure with just our front 4, it wasn't happening. Now it seems the LBs that we weren't impressed with are more than functional in the 3-4 rotation. Seems to me that our personnel was suited more for a 3-4. Hindsight will always be 20-20, but interesting as this defensive transition continues to pan out.

The ironic thing is that our down linemen look better than they ever did in a 4-3. Last year they looked terrible. Now...not so bad. I'd say the secondary is the thing that's gonna net tested this year, and probably look bad. Either way, it's only been one game. Let's see what they can do vs CIN.

Man, what a great article.

I tend to agree with Rockmolder that we will be seeing less of the 2-4 front and more of the 3-4 from now on. The reason, I think, is that Raji is coming back. He gives us another very big, quick guy on the line, which I'm hoping will allow the LB's and DB's more freedom to make plays.

What's really remarkable about the defense against the Bears was how much pressure they brought without taking a lot of big risks.

Capers=genius. So far so good, anyway.

Capers=1 one good game.

I won't be happy until after the MIN game when AP has 40 yards and Favre has 4 interceptions. Then Capers=Genius!

Just as i said a month or so ago when people kept worrying about Dline depth. The packers will have 3 or less Dlineman on the field at once, and atleast half the time(nickle and other sub packages) will have 2 or less.

They run a 2-4-5, not a 4-2-5 as their base nickle package.

This is something that wasn't really emphasized very much Post-Game.

The Bears convert a first down against a Packers blitz on the next play, but they do it with Forte and Olsen blocking. If Dom Capers can neutralize two of his opponent's best players by forcing them to block, it's a win for the Packers defense.

It doesn't necessarily mean that our talent is more "fitted" towards a 3-4 scheme, all I was saying is that with the right coach our players will produce(especially with the talent we have). Capers has a long history in the NFL and his resume happens to be a damn good one for the most part. Not perfect but, he definitely has shown he can make defenses produce right away when he's a DC. Bob didn't have much experience and lacks the creativity that Capers possesses. I really haven't been down on our players but, it always seem like a lot of people look into what the media has to say and take their word for it. Green Bay's at times can be full of BS so I don't really value what they have to say unless it's objective which it rarely is.

Capers has absolutely been an excellent shot in the arm for the Packers defense. My only worry is retaining Capers beyond this season or next.

Of course, being the fickle business that is the NFL, this is predicated on Capers' defensive units being an improvement over the 4-3 last year. But I do have as much faith in Capers as any defensive co-ordinator we've had the past 3 years or anyone else else we could have acquired this offseason.
