That was crap. that should have never been called. also a interesting point collinsworth pointed out during the game is that Hester should have been on the line of scrimmage when he wasn't. so it should have been illegal formation on chicago.

only he didn't jam him in the back of the shoulder.

Seifert talks the Packers up pretty decently when they deserve it. He has never struck me as a homer before, although I hate saying that about any Minnesota writer...

Even the NFL Network commentators acknowledged in the highlight videos on NFL.com that the call was entirely bogus. Either way, these types of call need to become challengable. It boggles my mind that they still are not.

And for those of you who keep saying that this call didn't have much of a substantive effect on the game and we could not have blamed it for a loss, pointing out that the Bears marched down the field to score, you're wrong. Were it not for this call, the Bears would have had to punt it away and Green Bay would have regained possession. They never would have had a chance to score. This call most definitely could have cost the Packers the game.

The line of scrimmage was the 40 yard line.
The WR lined up off the line of scrimmage.
That means illegal formation, play done. However, it was missed.

Harris put both hands on Hester at the 45 yard line.
Harris did not alter the route of Hester.

There was no illegal contact.

And, the play should have been blown dead for illegal formation.

Huh! Well I just remember back when I researched him and what he wrote (being an ex-Vikings reporter), I didn't find much that was too damning, considering he used to reside within the 7th circle of hell. That was a few years ago though.

Mr Pereira says it was a bad call. Says it was contact at 5 yards and was legit.
Official-Review-Week-1

Interesting, he says that the official that has to make the call is 20 yards downfield, I don't get that, how does that guy see where the 5 yards is at definitively? Well, either way, it was a bad call.
