:spiderman: Thompson best stop covering his ass with players he thinks are good. He'd best re-sign Tauscher or he'll have a quarterback dead. He also should have deep sixed one of those miserable RB's he kept and kept Sutton.

O-line and only the o-line....
They are the true weakness of this team right now. However, playing on the o-line in the past, one thing I remember is it always took us longer than any other part of the team to gel. It just works that way.

I think starting Barbre is good for the team next week. Yes, he was owned and got the one-armed shimmy... but...it was his first game as a starter. He could have had butterflies, maybe he was trying TOO hard to impress, or the last option...he really does just suck.

Give the dude a chance, he is a hard worker and might show us his week 1 performance was a fluke.

Right tackle is the biggest area of concern IMHO. Barbre was horrible and if Rodgers keeps getting hit like he did last night, he won't last the season.

Barbre may have appeared to look better in the 2nd half only because they kept a tight end or running back in to help him.

And why hasn't Thompson re-signed Tauscher? Even at his worst he is ten times what Barbre or Lang are.

Nothing wrong with Rouse. There is a reason he is backing up both FS and SS. He is better than the others.

I'm not disagreeing he's better than the others... but I'm still not sure he (nor the others) are good enough to be the #3 S

We have a thread for this. You just got done posting in it. Before I move this, please read this response.

Taush is not ready to play. He is a vested veteran. If we had signed Tausch, we would be obligated to pay his entire year's salary, which is substantial, and not be able to play him.

If we wait, we will have a (?4 game?) obligation--vs. 16 games????

He might be done. As in done, done.

Moved and Merged -- This was a response to chibiabo's brand new thread entitled "Right Tackle" placed in the General Discussion area of the site.

IMO I think about 4-6 weeks starting should be a fair amount of time to see if he can actually play the position or not in the real season. 4-6 weeks should give him a chance to come across a range of differently skilled Left ends. Plus as bad as he played in the first half he improved heaps in the second half, I still see potential.

OFFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!
Do some of guys actually hear yourselves. Wally O washed up??? He was a vet going up against a first year starter. You can watch Barbre start trying to guess on what O was gonna do. He would set up for the speed get burnt with a bull rush Set up for the bull get the hump set up for the hump get the speed.
We have all heard the term paraylis be analysis. Barbre did just that. He tried to anticipate instead of react.
Barbre knows his play was bad last night but he will also get the chance to improve. We all forget that our most venerable heroes on the Oline sucked at one time or the other.
I am therefor I think.

Barbre needs to get the footwork right. Tauscher wasn't an overpowering player, he was smart and had good technique, that was it. Nobody ever claimed he was an athletic phenom. Barbre needs to put in a good work of technique practice and he may be OK.

AKamp - I was feeling down about the OL until I read this. I didn't think of it this way. Yes, in the past, it took awhile for our OL to gel. So maybe give Barbre more time. I'm hoping it was a fluke.

yep, o-line is always the last unit to "click". I like the tools Barbre has. Time for him to realize he's a pro, get over the alligator arms (I didn't even know o-linemen could have alligator arms until yesterday), and go to work.
