ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions acquired safety Ko Simpson from the Buffalo Bills on Friday in exchange for an undisclosed 2010 draft pick.
The move came less than 24 hours after Simpson, a fourth-year NFL veteran, started the Bills' preseason finale against the Lions, who won 17-6.
Simpson played in all 16 games last season and had 66 tackles, but he missed most of 2007 because of a leg injury that he suffered in the season opener.
The Lions are thin at safety after placing Daniel Bullocks on season-ending injured reserve, and they had just four available players at the position Thursday night.
Detroit also released defensive end Orion Martin.
