So, I was lying down on Sunday, thinking about our skill position productivity when I had a chilling flashback to Sterling Sharpe's career ending injury (probably came about when Jennings took that big hit in the Arizona game) - and it got's me to thinking - can Jennings' further develop into our undisputed star of stars reciever?

Now, anyone who watched football from the very late eighties to the mid-90's knows that Sterling Sharpe was hall-of-fame bound, a perennial pro-bowler and a beautiful target for a young Miss. Gunslinger, before that injury.

I think all the tools are in place for Jennings to be one of our most productive recievers of all time, great speed, hands and best of all, a smart head - coupled with the fact that we have a deep recieving corps (Now including Jermichael Finley, who I maintain will be one of the best tight-ends in the league in a few years) - it also means that there are others who can shoulder the work.

So, the question asked :-

Do you think Greg "God" Jennings can match/surpass Sterling Sharpe's legacy?

I think so.

Wow, that is tough. Even a mere 15 years ago, was a long time in Football years. Sterling was arguably the best WR of his time. Big, strong, very good at shielding the ball from the defender. Better than Irvin, Carter, Moore or anyone at that time.

I don't want to put a limit on Jennings potential. I would love for him to have a career that out does Sterling, would be great for the team. As for all time, he needs to work to beat Driver, Lofton and Don (always the greatest).
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

nope for the reasons you stated, we have more than just Jennings so he won't catch a 100 balls a year.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

i was young...but i don't recall thinking *that* much of Sharpe. it seemed more like he was one of only a few "better than good" players on the team. i recall him being a bit slow; too muscular to make the kind of plays Jennings makes. i never really thought Sharpe would have been considered a "great" player on a team which actually had a decent amount of talent.

maybe i'm remembering things as they weren't...but that's how i remember it.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Sterling Sharpe was THE only weapon Brett had his first couple of years. In fact Brett would throw to Sterling when he was double and triple covered and Sterling had the knack of being able to get the ball.

I will have to agree with others, Jennings is the best The Packers have right now(don't say that to DD)Driver a close second, but with the young talent The Packers have at wr it will be hard for GJ to surpass SS.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Don Hutson?

Cant wait for Driver to break Sterling's all time reception record this season.

I guess he has the opportunity to be the best Packer WR. But I dont look at it like that. I like to think of ALL the great WRs we have had.

huge sterling fan, love jennings, but he has to follow up with a bunch of great years to match sterling, if it wasnt for the neck injury sterling could have one of the best in the history of football as far as im concerned !!

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Zero2Cool (9h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
