Capers upstairs
Defensive coordinator Dom Capers will call plays from the coaches booth rather than the field.
The last Packers defensive coordinator to work from the booth was Bob Slowik in 2004. His predecessor, Ed Donatell, along with the two most recent defensive coordinators, Jim Bates and Bob Sanders, worked from the field.
I just feel like I can see the game better from up there, Capers said. As a coordinator Ive always gone upstairs, because you can make better decisions when you have your plan laid out in front of you and you can see so much more. Nine years as a head coach on the sideline youve got to depend on those eyes upstairs many times because youve got the worst seat in the house, and its harder to call a game. When youre looking down on it and you can tell what the splits are and the formations, the shifts, the adjustments, it helps you better stay a step ahead of things.
Assistant head coach Winston Moss will be on the sidelines to relay Capers calls to players on the field. Defensive line coach Mike Trgovac will communicate defensive substitutions from the sidelines, Were figuring out ways to get him out, get reps, and make sure we feel consistent and comfortable.
The other coaches in the booth will be: offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, Joe Whitt Jr., Scott McCurley, Chad Morton, and John Rushing.
Others on the field will be: Edgar Bennett, James Campen, Tom Clements, Mike Eayrs, Shawn Slocum, Curtis Fuller, Kevin Greene, Jimmy Robinson and Ben McAdoo.
