This is probably the most ridiculous theory ever posted.

ummmm Zombie with those last stats i have no idea how that is helping your theory? It almost is showing you need a balanced offense to win more than anything.

How so?
The last 2 SBs were won with a higher percentage of passing than we do. If I'm not mistaken, we dropped to around 65% passing in '08 after having higher in '06 and '07 (when we had non-losing seasons, including a 14-4 season in '07 when we were primarily a passing team).

2008 - 67% pass
2007 - 68% pass

What was really astonishing though was the 99 SB where it was almost all passing, even though you had one of the best players in the NFL in Marshall Faulk.

In the past 20 years, a lot of SB winners rushed because they could because their leads were so insurmountable that they wanted to run the clock off, like in the Niners cases when the SB was a joke.

So my question to you is, would you rather have a top tier QB or a top tier RB? I'd take the QB. I strongly think QBs are a lot more important for winning SBs than RBs.

Of the best of the best RBs, the top tier in the past 20 or so years, you had Emmitt Smith winning 3, Marshall Faulk winning 1 (but he hardly touched the ball in the one he won), Barry Sanders winning 0, AP with 0, Wallie had 1, and LaDainian Tomlinson winning 0. The best Packer RB I've ever had the privilege to watch was hands down Ahman Green. He got us 0 SB wins.

Now, take the top QBs in the past 20 years. Tom Brady has 3. Brett Favre has 1. Joe Montana has 4. Steve Young has 1. Peyton Manning has 1. Kurt Warner has 1 (but he played in 4). Dan Marino is the odd man out with 0. Oh yeah, forgot Elway. He has 2.

A higher passing percentage to me doesn't mean screw the run. Cause fact is, if you don't have the ABILITY to run, the other teams defense will just pin it's ears back and destroy your QB.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't throw more then run, but you have to have the ability to run the ball decently, so that you can keep their D honest.

We didn't have a great running offense during SB 31 season, but it was good enough that it could bite the other team in the butt if they tried to tee off on Favre.

So to me at least, the ability to run better be there, or you are a sitting duck.
With our passing possibilities, we should be more pass oriented, for sure. But look at how our lack of being able to run when needed hurt us last year. If you are at 3rd and one, to me there is NO excuse why you can't pick up that one yard. If you can't, you better make some changes so that you CAN make it.
JMO of course.

Remember in '07, we went 7-1 with absolutely no running O.

You can have a second rate RB and win a SB.

The pass opens up the run. Once you start getting opposing Ds to put less men in the box and the LB starts taking that initial step into coverage, a quick handoff underneath becomes deadly, even with a second rate RB.

When we won the SB last, they did tee off on Favre and a lot of our rushing yards on the ground came from them trying to guard against the pass.

Oh, i agree Zombie!
But you still NEED the run, or you are going to suffer.
With our QB and WR's, we need to use them as much as possible. You don't want to waste talent like that! But we really need to prove that we CAN run the ball when necessary.
There will be some games where weather conditions will be where you HAVE to be able to run.
Don't missunderstand what i'm saying.........i LOVE the "pass first" offense because of the players we have. I just think we NEED to be able to run when necessary, and last year, we couldn't.

Let me get this straight Zombie, you want the packers to throw the ball more? If we do that i think we better get alot better line to protect Rodgers? Which in turn if our line is better don't you think our running game would be better? Speaking of 2nd rate qbs why do you leave out the likes of Big Ben in 2005 or Trent Dilfer, Eli Manning or even look at the Bears and sexy Rexy made it to the Big Game.

You bring up Elway in your post but did you forget when they beat us they ran the ball down our throat and they had a 2000 yd rusher in Davis. You bring up Faulk but you mention the super bowl what about the season he had with 1000 yds rushing and 1000 yds recieving?

Aaron's release is getting better. Keep in mind, Dan Marino had various levels of OLs, from very good to very bad, and rarely got sacked because of his release.

Hey, I hate Eli with a passion. But he gets it done when he has to. I hate the guy even more than I hate Peyton but I got to give him props.

Faulk, I think I already disproved. Rams won one SB with Faulk, and he got 17 yards rushing but almost 100 receiving. So that proves my point.

I already said my piece about Wrecks and don't feel like repeating it. Also keep in mind, they LOST, which is exactly my point.

You're a fellow Favre fan. Look at how well he carried us with no RB. I strongly believe he could have maintained that for the entire '07 season, even if Grant never emerged.

When we beat the Hawks, Favre threw 3 TDs and was pretty much perfect. Grant may have run in 3 TDs, but his fumbles allowed the Hawks to score 14 of their 20 total points. So take Grant out of the game and we still kick Seahawk butt.

When I say "screw the run," I thought I made it clear I was exaggerating for effect. I think I said that at least once in this post or in my replies. Here I'm saying it again.

What I would like to see is a 70/30 pass/rush ratio. I strongly think putting the game in Aaron's hands gives us our best chance to score points, and you win games by scoring more points than your opponent.

I'm not talking D at all. That's an entirely different subject.

What I am saying is that SB winners generally have pretty damn good QBs, but often have mediocre RBs because the running game in today's NFL has become secondary to the pass.

The trend will continue that way. Don't be surprised if you see a team that runs only 25% of the time win the SB within the next few years.

Pass first, and the pass opens up the run. Maximize our scoring potential.

Weird I posted this back in 2009.

In 2010, we win the SB with our RB rushing 11 times for 52 yards. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· was our other rusher that game and he had 2 rushes for -2 yards (the last 2 plays of the game, he kneeled down).

In 2011, we'll win the SB again and currently, we have the 29th ranked rushing attack in terms of yards. Starks & Grant after 12 games have combined for 1 rushing TD. Kuhn does have 4 though, but Kuhn has a whopping 27 yards rushing.

Neither Starks nor Grant have had a 100 yard rushing game this year and it's doubtful that by the end of the year, either of them will. πŸ‡²πŸ‡² has pretty much abandoned the run until we have a sizable lead.

Our main RB is #35 in fantasy points currently. Our 2nd RB is #57.

So now, if you want to call me an idiot, feel free. Just let it be known you'll also be calling my favorite coach πŸ‡²πŸ‡² an idiot as well.
