Some interesting analysis, but I question if it is completely accurate. I don't think Brady knows what the exact play call is and out of that same formation and play action they run different route combinations. Brady is acting like that play is designed ONLY for the ball to go to Jordy. If that was the case, defenses would know and have the route covered every time so in order to keep defenses on their toes, they do different things our of the same look.
And as Brady says, it is also dependent on the coverage which is different in the two examples. In the second example they are in press coverage with safety help over the top on both Cobb and Jordy. And Cobb who isn't a burner like Janis so sure, the dig route makes sense because if Cobb ran deep he would be dragging both the CB and S with him making a potential triple coverage on the same throw. On the Janis play, the CB is playing off without over the top help because the Safeties are staggered so they know Janis is 1on1 with the CB, perfect for Janis to go deep against.
Sure Janis might have screwed up, but I'm not sure. One of the reasons people have wanted him on the field is to blow the top off defenses which is exactly what he was doing. With that 1on1 matchup I'm not sure why Rodgers didn't try to go deep to him in the first place
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
