most of us thought that the reason we spent a 9 pick on the best DT in the draft was because we needed a solid NT or one that could rotate.

Who was it that said "the majority is usually wrong"? ;)

On a serious note, remember that Raji never actually played NT in college, so I'm guessing our scouts liked him for his potential versatility. I'm not surprised the coached are covering all their bases in OTAs. Besides, Pickett is in the last year of his contract and surely needs his reps, whereas Raji is a rookie with plenty of time to develop and mature. His time will come.

is it too hard to keep this about Jeremy Thompson? We have a player who is EXCITED about his switch and we have to push this somewhere else? What the hell?

Doesn't anyone want to talk about the fact that Thompson IS talking to the media and that Thompson IS happy about the switch and that he IS excited about the possibilities of his talents in this scheme?

I do think the Jeremy Thompson pick lends further credence to the theory that Ted Thompson has had a multi-year plan to move to the 3-4 for some time now. All the people who have assumed he's an inept buffoon with no long-term vision are looking dumber all the time.

not sure I agree ... The pack went after other D cordinators first before capers (it came out) I think at least 2-3 others and they didnt necessarily use the 3-4.

If you hire capers you hire the 3-4 since that's what he teaches.

Therefor the 3-4 was decided along with hiring capers

I could see Matthews moving inside on certain downs as well. He's very versatile.

Jeremy Thompson is the starter right now, but there is a long ways to go. Like stated, OTA's are more of a preview of sorts and not really the full blown thing. Thompson vs. Matthews will be a position battle and it's only right to play the better player and not the guy who was drafted to be that.

It also helps that Thompson has been working with Capers for at least three months more than Matthews has and is probably further along in the defense. Doesn't mean Matthews won't catch up, but it's just worth pointing out.

Also don't forget the NFL is a faster game than college. Matthews needs to work on that transition as well too.

Who knows maybe thomson and Mike McCarthy had matthews as a ST guy at first with a role in OLBer and to see how he does there and if he performs well then start.
He was top ST guy at his school for 3 years in a row I think.

I think the important thing is that hopefully Thompson is a great fit and will be good player for us. Mathews moving in over time will happen but if Thompson is better there now that's great for us. Like they say you can't have enough good LB's in this defense.

The more guys on the roster that can go in and we don't lose a beat having them in there the better off we will be as the season wears on. That was definately not the case last year when Barnett went down. The level of play went down when that happened.

I think a key to our winning the North is the guys backing up starters are better than what the rest of the division has behind their first line players. The Vikes D, for example, will be strong that first few weeks but if guys start going down their second tier guys aren't even close to the starters over there.

Teams with poor depth will be getting exploited by week 10 or so. That's one reason why a lot of teams tail off at the end of the year.

I just picked the thread i had open lol. Didn't know what one it was in :p
LTF the main question is wouldn't you kind of have your projected starters playing with the 1st team? Just like i saw a post stating that Raji didn't get any snaps at NT. Isn't that the position we drafted him for? Matthews was drafted to be the OLB opposite of Kampman. I was just curious about why they don't have them with the 1st team.

We actually don't KNOW that I don't think, that is what was speculated. But yes I also find it kind of odd that he didn't take any snaps at NT.

I know I am taking this back off topic for a moment but I just read where BJ TOOK OVER FOR PICKETT AT NT in the afternoon practice on Wednesday.

Why is everybody in such a hurry around here? Geez. MAYBE they just wanted to let BJ work some at DE for a few consecutive days and not start flip-flopping him so fast he gets confused.

I mean we all know the roles are different and the technique is different at nose. Let's just start throwing DE and NT tackle at him in shifts and see how long before he comes out cross-eyed.

he took over cuz pickett was out - which is good IMO; so at least they can see how bj does

beast (4h) : Seems like he was just pissed because he was no longer the starter
beast (4h) : Campbell is right, he's rich and he doesn't have to explain sh!t... but that attitude gives teams reasons to never sign him again.
dfosterf (22-Feb) : I have some doubt about all that
dfosterf (22-Feb) : I read De'Vondre Campbell's tweet this morning (via the New York Post) Florio says that if he invested his earnings wisely, he will be good
beast (20-Feb) : I haven't followed, but I believe he's good when healthy, just hasn't been able to stay healthy.
dfosterf (20-Feb) : Hasn"t Bosa missed more games than he has played in the last 3 years?
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : He hasn't been too bad when healthy but I don't feel like I ever heard much about when he is
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : Felt like he was more interested in his body, than football. He flashed more than I expected
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : When he was coming out, I thought he'd be flash in pan.
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : Joey seems so forgettable compared to his brother for some reason
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : NFL informed teams today that the 2025 salary cap will be roughly $277.5M-$281.5M
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : Los Angeles Chargers are likely to release DE Joey Bosa this off-season as a cap casualty, per league source.
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : If the exploit is not fixed, we'll see tons of "50 top free agents, 50 perfect NFL team fits: We picked where each should sign in March" lo
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Issue should be solved, database cleaned and held strong working / meeting. Boom!
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : It should be halted now.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : usually spambots are trying to get traffic to shady websites filled with spyware; the two links being spammed were to the Packers website
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : you know when you put it that way combined with the links it was spamming (to the official Packers website)
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yep. You can do that with holding down ENTER on a command in Console of browser
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : even with the rapid fire posts?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : I'm not certain it's a bot.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I've got to go to work soon which is a pity because I'm enthralled by this battle between the bot and Zero
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, I see what that did. Kind of funny.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : now it's a link to Wes Hodkiezwicz mailbag
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Now they're back with another topic
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : oh lol
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : I have a script that purges them now.
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : 118 Topics with Message.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : what's 118 (besides a number)?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : They got 118 slapped in there.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : that's why it confused the hell out of me
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, but this is taking a headline and slapping it into the Packers Talk
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Wasnt there a time guests could post in the help forum?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : lol good question, kind of impressed!
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : So how is a guest posting?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Tell them its an emergency
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Working. Meetings.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Lots of fun; the spam goes back 4 or 5 pages by this point
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought you'd look for yourself and put 2 and 2 together lol. I overestimated ya ;)
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought Guests couldnt post?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : And gosh that's gonna be fun to clean up! hahaa
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Oh. Why not just say that then? Geez.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : check the main forum, seems a spam bot is running amok
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : What?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Is the Packers online game "Packers Predict" now available for 2024? I can't tell
Zero2Cool (17-Feb) : Bengals planning to Franchise Tag Tamaurice Higgins
Zero2Cool (14-Feb) : Packers are hiring Luke Getsy as senior offensive assistant.
Martha Careful (12-Feb) : I would love to have them both, esp. Crosby, but either might be too expensive.
Zero2Cool (12-Feb) : Keisean Nixon is trying to get Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams lol
Mucky Tundra (11-Feb) : Yeah where did it go?
