No Contract Yet For Harrell
Posted by Mike Florio on May 4, 2009, 12:21 p.m. EDT

In the immediate wake of his participation in the Browns rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell has yet to parlay his performance into a free-agent contract.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer tells us that, although a deal has not yet been done, the Browns havent ruled out signing Harrell.

Itll be interesting to see whether Harrell gets a shot in the NFL. During our spot this morning with Tim Brando of Sporting News Radio, Brando made a compelling case for Harrell, distinguishing him from the smaller Chase Daniel.

Hes no Kliff Kingsbury, Brando said of Harrell.

So stay tuned on this one. As Brando pointed out, Daniel could end up being a guy who holds a clipboard in the NFL; Harrell could end up being a guy who puts on his helmet and plays.

Harrell is 6'2". Why are we questioning his size?

I would love to see a couple of the "too short" QBs come up to play in Canada. Particularly Chase Daniel. It's a different game up here, and I am fan of that as well as the NFL. Shorter QBs often do well here - the very best to ever play this game was Doug Flutie. He was REALLY too short to play in the NFL, and did not fit the Pro Style offense at all.

I think that the NFL teams are at some point going to have to come to terms with the fact that they will be drafting more and more QBs that have not played in a Pro Style offense in college. Various spread offense schemes seem to be coming into vogue at more and more schools. I suspect that the development time of a new QB will become a year or two longer, and it will be difficult to draft QBs that are ready to step into a starting role in the league.

I am happy that Graham Harrell latched on somewhere. I really enjoyed watching his offense!

Flutie wasn't that bad though. I think that the NFL scouts put way to much stock in size. Ofcourse, 5'10 is really extreme and it's a wonder that Flutie did have the succes he had, but 6'2? Favre is 6'2 (Like Pack93 stated), Garcia is 6'1, Brees is 6'0.

I think teams are just hestitant to pick up a smallish guy and give him a chance, but if they have a good arm etc. they can work out just as well. Ofcourse being a tall guy helps, but it's hardly as necessary as NFL teams seem to think. Or at least, that's how I think about it.

Zero2Cool (7h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (7h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (9h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (10h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
    dfosterf (11h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
    Zero2Cool (11h) : Thank you
wpr (11h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (11h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (11h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (11h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (11h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (12h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (12h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (12h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (12h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (12h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
    Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
    Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
