They are defense, defense, defense. They always have good defensive minded coaches and a plan. They are by no means an offensive juggernaut. they are good and can make plays and it's really securing knowing the defense they have backing them up.

Roth was thrown into a great situation when he came up into Pittsburgh. Pretty decent offense, but amazing D. Gives him the chance to win games 17-13, 13-10 ect. He's aloud to make multiple mistakes, but just not throw the game away by throwing 3-4 picks.

You're not saying Rothlisburger is over-rated. I made the mistake of telling my Steeler buddies once that Terry Bradshaw was pretty much a benefactor of the Defense and great offensive personnel. That turned into a couple hour/ case of beer debate.

To be honest you would be surprised on how many fans out here actually don't even like Big Ben. They say he is worthless lol. I personally can't stand him because he does have an ego, When Tomlin took over Ben demanded he help set up the playbook and they let him do it. They actually even said there o-line sucked this year (going to check on some stats). But dang gotta love the defense.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think it's a combination of factors. Their O-line certainly is pretty terrible at pass blocking, but great at run blocking. Part of it is that Ben holds on to the ball too long too many times. However, he is amazing at escaping the rush and hard to bring down...so he gets away with it.

I just wanted to add this here from another Steelers fan:

http://steelerstoday.com/?p=2873 \

So far, the Steelers have gone according to their usual script during the free agency period. The Steelers typically seek first to re-sign their own players. Then, once the big spenders have left the pool, the Steelers will usually make a free agent signing or two that cause little splash. The Steelers never sign big name free agents, but the ones that they sign often make a big contribution.

Recent Steelers free agent signings include Justin Hartwig, Keyaron Fox, and Ryan Clark. James Farrior may be the best free agent acquisition currently on the Steelers roster. He was signed for next to nothing when the New York Jets gave up on him. The Steelers then plugged him in, and hes been a critical component of the Steelers D ever since. Hes a defensive captain, and a multi-time Pro Bowl player.

Instead of chasing big name free agents, the Steelers believe in taking care of their own players. The Steelers understand that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side. They know what their own players can do. More importantly, they know about the problems that their own players may bring to the table. What effect a player like Albert Haynesworth will have on the Redskins locker room is anybodys guess.
