He's older now but still very successful and in terrific shape. Bring him in on a 1-2 year deal. Has perfect size to play DE in a 3-4. Has tons of football experience and is known as a football leader. Probably get him for cheap and he can make a bigger impact, potentially then Canty and Olshansky. I like the idea of not over spending for DT's unless we draft one.

I'd go after him and maybe Mike Wright and set up a solid rotation along with Harrell, Jolly, Malone, Jenkins and maybe we draft a few guys that can play the position as well.

This would make sense to me, I know a lot of people will say he's too old....meh. It's better then locking a marginal player up to 5 year deals. Plus you can't argue with his credentials.

Kevin Carter, not Green.

He's too old to be considered for more than two years, so signing him to a short team deal is almost useless because he'd either be bound to lose the job, or he'll get hurt.

But we have money and he does have credentials. He's the guy with the kind of attitude our defensive line will need.

I don't understand what you mean here. You would sign him short term, cheaply incase one of the 2 happened and it wouldn't hurt so badly?

2nd part of what you said I agree with. I just think we need some solid bodies that can play DE/DT. Don't necessarily need to be cornerstone DE's. Infact I think in a 3-4 it's not that important ...Unless it's a nose tackle which is where you want to be set at. if you're lucky enough to draft a guy that can be a 3-4 Nose Tackle (Raji) then that would be the ideal situation.

Otherwise I think we just need bodies that can fit in and play at DE and fill the gaps.

I'm just not so high on players who are here for a year, contribute, and then you never hear from them again. Terry Glenn, for example, stepped in well in place of Antonio Freeman and was a key reason for Donald Driver finally bursting onto the scene. Then he got traded.

Kevin Carter is someone who can undoubtedly contribute, but with his age, injuries are bound to catch up to him, and I fear that all he'd be used for is keeping players in line (while on the sideline). If Carter was like 32-33, I wouldn't see it as much of an issue.

So what I'm saying is... if he signed, it better be so cheap that it wouldn't affect us in any fashion.

I find it interesting that we have interest in Carter but not Holiday.. Capers has experience with both gents..

This cat looks Good ...

I say we sign this guy!

Reasons:
The guy sounds intelligent, hard worker (hasnt missed a game). Brings alot of experience, the interview talks about being on a good d team at the bucs ...

ya sure he's older and wont be DE on all downs ... but perhaps this means we get him for cheaper and if it dont work out we dont lose alot of $

I have a feeling Ted Thompson is saving cap room for next year and for signing some of our key players collins/jennings etc ...

sign this guy

No thank you. If we are going with youth, go with youth. We already have some veteran players to assume the leadership roles. Right now we are trying to fill gaps that we could've filled with much better and younger players. I say stay with the youth movement if that is the direction Ted Thompson wants to go. Let's play the draft picks and see what TT's knowledge with talent has really provided us.

While I agree that I would like a younger option for a full time player, but I disagree with the thinking of not adding vets.

The blend has been too light on veteran presence to date, the collapses of last season speak loudly to that.

I also think that Ted will have learned from that, maybe not going out and inking a ton of veterans, but instead slowing the pace of roster turnover and leaving more of the core and depth in tact.

Zero2Cool (2h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (16h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (16h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
