A republican state representative is proposing a casino(s) in order to generate revenue to build a new stadium. So far, the Vikes seem lukewarm on the idea, and it would require a constitutional amendment. The lease on the house of hot air runs out soon, and there are a lot of indicators that Zygi is taking his show on the road to LA after that. Honestly, who could blame him? This is NOT directed at our Vikes fans that dwell amongst us, or those folks over at P.P.O. Their loyalty is just like ours.

The reality seems to be that a large enough percentage of Minnesota residents just don't care enough about the Vikes to prevent them from leaving. The reasons are irrelevant. I strongly suspect that if something like this proposal doesn't happen, the Vikes will be moved to California.

I think it would be sad. I also think Minnesota will regret not having retained the Vikings. This country is already "coast-biased" in it's consciousness, and the Vikes leaving will render the state of Minnesota invisible to most Americans. I think they should factor that in along with their arrogant ambivalence.

I know this.. It's this freakin' states JACKED up politicians. They don't even want to SIT DOWN with the Vikings to discuss this.. How can they pass anything? That's what makes me mad. If the Vikings leave (and know this.. I DON'T want that to happen), I can't really blame them. The state would rather pass an amendment to increase taxes state wide for swamps (which would bring in over $200 million the first year) and increase taxes for a HUGE downtown Minneapolis library than sit down and talk plans for the Vikings stadium stuff. It's not like the Vikings having a downtown stadium won't help the economy at all... :roll

The residents only look at Wilf's total price tag for the stadium, and doesn't realize the proposed offer would have costed LESS THAN HALF of what it is now if they would have thought about making a deal 5 years ago. Way to drop the ball, you arrogant, elitist pricks. Not to mention, Wilf's figure is almost 100% guaranteed to be negotiable. It was only his offer.

Mark my words, if the Vikings leave, the state will realize the mistake. Much like how the North Stars left. When the state finally gets a 'replacement' team, they'll understand that it is more of a PRIVILEGE than NOT to have a professional sports team (i.e. The Minnesota Wild, despite struggles to just get in the playoffs, much less make playoff runs, have sold out the Xcel Center EVERY home game in it's existence. Not to mention, the Xcel being voted as the best sports arenas of ALL sports).

I actually feel sorry for our Vikings fans on here.
They have the same love/loyalty for "their" team as we do for ours.
In the end, it's the fans that get screwed over.

Formo, Vikesrule, and I know i'm missing some others, which i'm sorry, my mind hasn't been working at all clear since my surgery,.......we would be PROUD to welcome you on the Packer fan band wagon. You guys are wonderful people, and deserve better then what Ziggy is doing to you guys.
I'm NOT being a smart ass, and i know it would hurt for you to change allegiance, but please know i mean it from my heart, I and i know many people on here would welcome you with open arms.
You guys are class acts........which is what you deserve in return.

I also feel bad for Vikings fans. I hope they can stay in MN for 2 reasons:
1) The NFC Central (now the North) wouldn't be the same without you guys,
2) LA fans are the worst. When the Raiders moved to LA, they became the official gang banger team. That image will haunt them for at least the next decade.

They're also the most fair weathered fans out there. Lakers are the perfect example. When they're good, everyone's a Lakers fan. When they're bad, who are the Lakers? Are they basketball or hockey? Oh, that's right, they're that basketball team. I'm not joking. It really is like that in LA.

2 things.

1. The current ownership has been nothign short of fantastic. To this point they have dumped piles of money into the team, updated facilities, improved every aspect of being a Vikings fan. I saw some people ripping Wilf and that's just not fair. He has been a GREAT owner. He has also stated numerous times that he is committed to keeping the Vikings in MN, he's said this from day 1. Does that mean he won't move them if a stadium can't be built? No, but at least he's trying. It's nearly impossible for the ownership group to make money from the Metrodome and it is a business after all so you couldn't blame them too much if a deal couldnt be reached.

2.) It's not that a large percentage of Minnesotans don't care about the Vikings - see the TV ratings - they are thorugh the roof. Vikings are huge in MN but the fact of the matter is people aren't willing to shell out bank in order to sit in a dump of a stadium for three hours. Hell, I'm a season ticket holder and completely understand why people would rather watch from the bar or at home. We need a new stadium. If we build it, they will come.

Thanks for the kind words, Alan.

But, don't be mistaken, Wilf is doing what he can. Could he give more? Probably. But the state has given him and the Vikings NOTHING. 5 years ago, he just wanted to sit down with the legislature and start working on a plan. He just wanted to SIT DOWN with them. Not a commitment, not any money. State told him, 'NO! We have other issues' Which was true, but they still managed to find time for the Twins and the Gophers..?! Flash forward.. The state shut out the Vikings every year, and now that the economy is in the tank, the state is still, obviously, saying, 'NO!' All they had to do was get something going, and they could have potentially saved over half a billion dollars. But even if they hash out a plan tomorrow and start building once the Vikings lease with the Dome is up, the new stadium will have cost the state about DOUBLE what it would have if they got this issue done 5-10 years ago (back when Red McCombs owned the Vikes).

I don't put the entire blame on the state for this.. As Red screwed up the states ties to the Vikings, but the state never gave the Vikings a legitimate chance in their legislature. And that's on them.

I'm a Packers fan from the east side of Wisconsin. When I moved to Minneapolis I never thought much about the Vikings, they were a team we played twice a year. It wasn't anything like the rivalry between the Packers and Bears.

Since the U & the Twins have new stadiums (I don't count the Wild as that happened a while ago), I don't see why the Vikes don't get their own stadium. It would be a big loss to the Midwest, and let's face it WI and MN need all the help they can get form their professional sports teams.

No more than a couple of years ago, the Vikes were using footage of Culpepper fumbling the ball, picking it up and running it in for a touchdown to sell season tickets. I think they need a little more inspiration than that.

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
