This is a very rare topic of conversation in football forums. However I believe it's time to start talking about it as I strongly believe that Thompson will be looking at drafting a guard in the later rounds.
Next season we could be looking at
LT- Clifton
LG- Colledge
C- Spitz, Carvalho
RG- Sitton
RT- Tauscher, Giacomini
I believe the packers staff are "down" on Wells and could cut him and focus on Spitz as our centre with the possibility of promoting Carvalho as backup even though on paper he is undersized.
Barbre and Moll has not shown anything to suggest they can come in a perform at a decent level when needed. I expect Moll to be cut and Barbre is on thin ice.
I fully expect us to draft an OT within the 1st two picks. That leaves a guard spot that needs to be filled.
What prospects out there could we be looking at? I imagine that we would be looking at around 6ft 4" and 315lbs which is roughly the same size as Sitton.
The main prospect is Alex Mack who fits those dimensions to the T, While he is a centre, he can also play guard and that gives us versatility if Spitz get's injured. Unfortunately he is projected to go late 1st round, early 2nd round.
Instead we could be looking at guys like Jonathan Luigs, Andy Kemp, Andy Levitre, Travis Bright, Robert Brewster and Alex Fletcher to name but a few.
I'm intrigued with Bright and Kemp after reading their nfl.com combine profile. Unfortunately i know next to nothing about those guys,
Maybe you guys would be more knowledgeable about OG's in the draft. Who do you think is good and who do you want the packers to draft?
