The other two are believed to be NFC South opponents, to which the Panthers would be hesitant to move their disgruntled star."

just wondering about the "two nfc south teams". as far as i know neither the bucs nor falcons or saints have plans to run a 3-4 system in which peppers prefers to play. i'm confused.

i would pass on peppers anyway. too much money, no security that he'll get the job done in a 3-4.

I think 1 high priced transitional question mark (Kampman) per year will due just fine.

It's strange report considering Peppers has acknowledged that he wants to be in the 3-4 yet there isn't a single 3-4 teams in the NFC South. That doesn't connect the dots very well which means the report could be bogus.

Peppers probably wants to be a Dallas Cowboy or New England Patriot, but the problem is the Patriots may not want to shell out big money for him and Dallas probably can't afford to sign both Julius Peppers and Ray Lewis.

If he's franchised it's going to be a long and drawn out process. I wouldn't rule anything out yet.

If Carolina doesn't franchise Jordan Gross though I'll be surprised. I think they'll be more likely to franchise the guy that wants to stay with them rather than the guy that wants to leave. Of course if they can get a deal done with Gross then they'll be sitting in excellent shape.

I think they need to franchise peppers. you can't let him walk without compensation. you just can't.

Instead you lose Jordan Gross though.

Look at it like this.

Franchise Peppers and Jordan Gross signs with Team A.

Trade Peppers for a 1st and a 3rd to Team B.

The end result is Team C (You) ends up with a first and a third. Probably a mid first and third at that and you've just loss Jordan Gross and Julius Peppers. Yeah you traded one, but the end result is the same when you look at the key losses column for the off season review.

If you franchise Gross at least you get to keep your young franchise left tackle whom could be there another five seasons if you reach a long term deal.

No doubt that's it's a tough decision though.

I think it'll be a much clearer picture tomorrow, once they do actually franchise one of them. i think we'll find out how much gross wants to stay in carolina. I am under the assumption that a contract with Gross could still be signed tonight; that it is a distinct possibility. carolina may "overpay" to get this done, but that's fine if they're able to franchise peppers then trade him.

I think we could very well see Gross sign tonight to a very big contract, one that may be "more than he is worth", just so they can franchise peppers.

For what it's worth, the story on ESPN said only that it was 2 NFC teams. Nothing about them being NFC South teams.

ESPN story

NFC teams (besides Dallas) running a 3-4:

Arizona, San Fran, Green Bay. I'm guessing his list is:

1. Dallas
2. New England
3. Arizona
4. Green Bay

This is the best news I have heard so far this calendar year with regards to the Packers.

One better, Haynesworth saying he has no interest in the Packers either.

Both are too risky and by them coming out an saying they don't want to come here.. we don't have to deal with the SOBing GM won't sign any high profile free agents. ;)

Honestly, neither would be worth their compensation to the Packers, period.
