I just this moment got off the phone with Cheesey's wife so here's the scoop. Alan is doing as well as expected for one day after surgery. He had a few set backs with the coughing exercises today, plus it was a good 7-8 hours after surgery that he came around. The Drs. were thinking 4-5 hours but it took him longer. His diabetes acted up and they had to control that, but he is awake and is asking about some of us.

LJ is one worn out lady, but I give her credit as she is hanging in there and keeping Alan's spirits up. He was about to go into "la-la" land as I was talking to LJ.

It is going to be a long haul for Alan, but the outlook is good. The Docs said his heart was good, but with the other medical issues he has they have to be very careful. LJ didn't say when he would be released from the hospital, but I'm guessing Thursday may be a bit early. Believe me, the first 24-36 hours after surgery is the worst.

Trippster....LJ isn't ignoring you...she has been pretty busy and says she will try to contact you or you can try to get her sometime.

Ironman....check your PM later. I will give you Alan and LJ's cell #

Other than that Alan is doing fine. Keep those prayers going for him. He is a gentle and caring person and his humor and sense of what is right is one thing that keeps me going.....and I'm sure many of you. If I hear more I'll post it ASAP.

It took my father a little under a couple weeks to be released from the hospital after heart surgery, so it may be a little longer than Thursday. Also with the coughing exercises, did they have to crack his rib cage to do the surgery, because coughing will be a pain for months afterwards so having him not do that well with the exercise is not a big concern.

Send him my best wishes, and I'm glad he is doing well.

I know that they had to break my grandma's sternum to replace one of her valves...So yes, more than likely they did have to.

Anyway, thanks for the update.

thank you so much for the news, bob. diabetes is one tricky disease so for him to be having problems with it now is no surprise. getting a simple cold can throw diabetics into major highs & lows. i hope they keep him longer than they originally thought.
