Raiders | Huff to be released?
Sat, 07 Feb 2009 05:33:35 -0800

Jason Jones, of the Sacramento Bee, reports the Oakland Raiders are likely to release FS Michael Huff, something Huff also expects.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread but we aren't sitting that great in cap room compared to alot of other teams. We actually rank 19th in room left, all the other nfc north teams have more money than us. So much for Ted Thompson setting us up so pretty with tons of cap room left.

Here is a list:

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Why are we even talking free agents, with Ted Thompson in the same sentence? as packer98 said Ted Thompson isn't a spender. Look at the last two off seasons. 2 free agents combined in two years! One of them a DB that no one has ever heard of, and who knows where he is now.

Atari Bigby

Kregg Lumpkin
Brandon Chillar

To just name a few ...

Ted gets Free Agents, but he doesn't take fliers on 'risky' Free Agents that will break the bank.

I think this year there are some players that are worth selling the cow farm for. I might be mistaken too some of them might not be worth their weight in poop. I'd like a Haynesworth or Peppers for sure.

Also, I don't expect us to make any splash in the LB department.

edit, btw that player you're talking about, Frank Walker, his team played in the AFC Championship game and lost to the Steelers.

Good point Zero all but 2 of the guys listed do a great job of keeping the benches warm lol. Ted does a good job of picking up FA's that arent wanted by anyone else that includes Woodson who prety much said it him self.

Donald Lee, Tramon Williams, Ryan Pickett, Charles Woodson, and Brandon Chillar started multiple games for us and Atari Bigby would have too, but he was injured.

That's because the Packers have most of their guys signed already. It was just Tausher, Cole and Montgomery that are UFA.

Most of those teams high on that list have lots of unsigned players which they need to resign.

Like the the 2 top teams and another one in the top 5 don't have their starting QB signed to a contract.

Also contract swing amounts from year to year so somebody could earn 5 million one year and the least possible the next... and the Packers have a lot of guys in FA next year and usually the last year of the contact is highest so the Packers are probably paying more this year than other because of that.

I always here about FA's being the big thing that takes teams and puts them over the top.
But i think alot of the times they end up being desperate moves by GM's that end up blowing up in their faces.
I think thats something Ted Thompson is very aware of, and thats why he doesn't just go out and mortgage the farm on alot of FA's. Many of them are players at the ends of their careers that get a big pay day on what they DID, not what they are still able to do.
People like Reggie White are VERY rare.

Shane Lechler should be the guy we go after. Then we can forget about our punting woes.

beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
