UFA
Vernon Carey RT Miami 6'5" 335 lbs.

Green Bay will have to fight for Carey as Miami would like to keep him, but why would the Packers want a player that is unwanted?

Dwan Edwards DE Baltimore 6'3" 300 lbs.

Edwards was injured this year, but has experience in the 3-4.

Trade
Brandon Chillar to Oakland for Michael Huff

Chillar doesn't have a place in our defense right now and Huff has been a disappointment for Oakland, but has worked with our S coach.

Draft:
1.) BJ Raji NT Boston College 6'3" 335 lbs.

I would tend to pick a top flight LT at #9, but Raji is an interesting specimen at NT. To boot, I really think that he could play DE as well.

2.) Clay Matthews Jr. OLB USC 6'4" 245 lbs.

Matthews is a chip off the ol' block and can rush, drop and stuff. He is a gamer who runs the engine hot all of the time.

3a.) Eric Wood OL Louisville 6'4" 310 lbs.

To me, Wood is one of the most underrated OL in the draft in this draft. He can play G and C and is extraordinarily strong. He is a more athletic version of Sitton.

3b.) Jarron Gilbert DE San Jose State 6'5" 290 lbs.

Gilbert is a small school guy with great production. Was awesome at the Shrine Game.

4.) Maurice Evans OLB Penn State 6'2" 265 lbs.

Evans was great in 2007, but got into a little trouble over the summer and didn't play as well this year.

5.) Jared Bronson TE Central Washington 6'4" 262 lbs.

Bronson has been interviewed by Green Bay and is a two way TE. He has a few years on him, so he'll have to catch on fast.

6.) Daniel Holtzclaw ILB Eastern Michigan 6'1" 247 lbs.

Holtzclaw is a tackling machine who needs a shot to make it. Backing up for GB may be his shot.

6b.) Traded for a 2010 5th rounder.

7.) DJ Clark DB Idaho State 6'2" 205 lbs.

Clark has the body for the NFL, but not much else.

That's kind of small for an ILB isn't it?

And I'd rather have Brace in the 2nd round and then go with Everette Brown or Brian Orakpo in the first round.

I couldn't agree more with you. This would be my dream draft.

ya I agree - Id like a play maker for our 1st round draft pick - not too often we are #9

We really dont have any outstanding LBs atm ... barnett is pretty good but not as a solid OLB - we all figure kampman will be lining up at that position but we need a top of the line guy on the other side.

I like Brown, orakpo or jenkins for our #9.

I actually like Chillar more than Poppi last season. Dont know about Huff either. I think I'm content with our safeties atm.

Yes Tengo, Chillar was better this past year...but remember we were a 4-3 defense then. I think Poppinga would be a better fit for us in the 3-4.

To be honest based on need -

We need play makers in the upfront D. ie OLB and to make sure our downline men can stuff the run.

My thinking is Grab Brown or Jenkins (Jenkins because hes supposedly the best CB out there (and for awhile)). Then grab brace for a run stuffer. Then Tyson and some Oline. ie perhaps get 2 and use whomever works out better.

Well Poppi would play OLB...and I don't know if you can recall, but I do, he looked awful when rushing the QB this past season.

I recall this as well. I think Jason Hunter is in line to be the opposite starter of Aaron Kampman at OLB with Brady Poppinga and Jeremy Thompson being the backups. Of course I think if the Packers take a pass rusher at No. 9 then that player should probably be in the mix too. In fact that player should start then.
