Like I said last week... it's a done deal. Perry was in Green Bay at the beginning of last week and the ink was put to paper. The rollout has been slow, but look for something to break in the coming days. He will be in town after the Super Bowl.

The Pack hired a tremendous ball coach to run their secondary. If the DBs want to be consistent playmakers in this defense they better listen to Perry or they won't play.

Who would you rather have? Darren Perry or Herm Edwards?

Megatron - it doesn't matter, Perry was hired last week and is the guy. Herm will be on TV this year (NFL Network or ESPN) if he doesn't coach. I don't think he will for at least a year.

I shared that nugget last week and had it confirmed this week.

Last week I let it be known . . . Today, that interest became official . . .

Dude, we get it already. You have a good inside source. You don't need to keep rubbing our faces in it. 😛

Not sure if anyone posted this yet. I didn't see it.

The Packers have hired former NFL sack leader Kevin Greene to coach outside linebackers, an NFL source said.

Greene twice led the league in sacks -- with Pittsburgh in 1994 and Carolina in 1996 -- while playing in the same 3-4 defense that the Packers plan to run next season under new coordinator Dom Capers.

Greene had been working most recently in the private business sector but had done several training camp internships with NFL teams.

Greene is the second position coach hired by the Packers since making Capers their new defensive coordinator. They hired former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac as their defensive line coach on Friday.

The source said assistant head coach Winston Moss will coach inside linebackers and will work closely with Greene and Trgovac.

Kevin Greene to coach the OLB eh.. hell yeah, there is some of that intensity we have been miissing. I only hope it rubs off unto the players themselves..

Oh and a decrease in Moss's responsibilities at Linebacker coach isn't a bad thing.. I wonder why MM is coddling Moss to this extent? It isn't like the backers performed outstanding or consistently through his tenure. Are we hamstrung with that contract he was given last fall?

Darren Perry to the secondary, if that holds true I will be even more jacked.. IMO, he has a real shot at becoming a successful coach in this league... very smart as a player.

Things are shaping up real nicely now for a very successful and momentum building offseason.. bring on September already.

Whilst some people are very happy bringing that kind of personality into the dressing room, i'm sure there are a few a bit worried about his lack of coaching experience.

I'm not too worried because he will have no say on the playcalling, i think he will also have very limited say on personnel selections that responsibility will probably be Capers's. What he is expected to do is to get the OLB's ready to play the 3-4 and use his vast experience in his position to help these guys. He will be such a big presence in the dressing room that he will fire these guys up.

Also since he is a former player and should have the respect of our players, maybe McCarthy thought he would be ideal as you need a coach that a player is comfortable talking to when there's a problem. Greene could be the middle man between the players and the management. This could be very good for player/management dynamics and team spirit.

The hiring of Greene is not without it risks, i mean what if he is unable to coach at all!!? but he has clearly shown passion and has 15 years worth of knowledge and experience at OLB. It could be an inspired hire if it comes off.

Agreed with the Winston Moss perspective...After hearing about his Rams interview where he couldn't explain his defensive scheme. It makes me wonder why he is so highly reguarded by the Packers.

Urban Sport talk has put up a new article:

Our sources have confirmed what we initially reported last week that Darren Perry has been hired as the Defensive Back Coach of the Green Bay Packers. We arent sure why there is such a slow rollout on the new staff, but Perry was in town prior to Dom Campers being hired.

What we heard is that the Packers didnt want to wait on hiring a Defensive Coordinator before locking Perry up. Other NFL clubs were very interested in adding him to their staffs (i.e. Cowboys, Lions) so the Packers moved swiftly. Look for the official press release in the coming days and for Perry to get to work immediately after the Super Bowl.

If true, sounds like we already got ourselves a new defensive back coach.
