Interesting point, Orygunfan. It's entirely possible Favre was deliberately withholding his decision on retirement until after the Jets hired their new head coach. I wonder how eager he is to play for an obviously defensive-minded coach.

Maybe Brett will want to go back to NY BECAUSE of the defensive minded coach. Maybe he doesn't want to have to carry a team on through the season with a weak defense. He could possibly just want to be a game manager, considering that he is getting up in the years and has a bad shoulder.

I seriously doubt he'll be back, definitely not with the Jets considering all the talk by his teammates.

Just bringing up some thoughts.

The thing is, "IF".and i do mean "IF" the reports were true about some of his teammates not liking him, will another team want to take on the "baggage" of a 40 year old QB that went 22 TD's and 22 Int's, for MANY millions of dollars? Especially knowing he's got shoulder problems and most likely won't play more then one year? Maybe Al Davis.......but i don't see too many others.

They say Al Davis likes speedsters. I don't think Favre falls into that category anymore. 😉

If Brett does retire (I thought he was going to until Mangini was fired and now with Kurt Warner being in the Super Bowl I think Brett is wanting to prove he can do that too) don't the Packers forfeit their 6th round pick to the Jets? I read somewhere that was the case. Anyone got any info on that?

Well, your 2nd question has been answered, but nobody responded to the Warner comment.

Seeing a QB only one year his junior leading a team that NOBODY suspected of doing anything to the SB might drive Favre to play for another year. He's a competitor. I think something like that and you're going to literally have to drag him off the field.

Now age isn't an excuse. I hope Favre's shoulder improves. This should be an interesting year. If Favre can play like he did in the first 11 games and not like he did in the last five...

In a way......both.
Seems the way he is acting towards his teammates and MGMT the last few years, i'd called that "troubled".
And he will turn 40 this october, and the way he ended this past season, and games in the cold the last few seasons makes it look like if he's not over the hill, he's sure about to start a quick descent.
I know there are some that will give the guy a pass no matter what he does, or how he plays. I myself am just looking at it as if he was any other QB playing for any other team.
If Rex Grossman, or T-Jackson, or any other QB in the NFL put up the numbers Favre did this past year, most people that praise Favre would be ripping the other QB's for sucking.
I get it.......Favre gets a pass because of what he did, not what he is now. He could throw 10 TD's and 30 int's and some would still blindly say he's the greatest. He got voted into the pro bowl this year......who here honestly believe it's because of how he played this past season? It's a popularity contest, and MANY players get in based on the past.
Rodgers outplayed Favre this year. But our defense sucked.

All season i kept hearing how people were blasting Rodgers because "Favre was leading the Jets to the playoffs, and Rodgers wasn't leading the Packers to the playoffs." Then, when Favre failed to lead the Jets to the playoffs with a late season collapse, those people were not heard from again. They just "dissappeared".

Of course these are just my own opinions, and if you don't want to agree with them, thats ok with me.
