Looks like we may have some competition in the McDermott sweepstakes:

McDANIELS WANTS McDERMOTT
Posted by Mike Florio on January 11, 2009, 9:46 p.m. EST

One of the burning questions for Broncos fans in the wake of the news that Pats offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will replace Mike Shanahan as head coach is this: Hey, we thought it was our defense that sucked?

Though owner Pat Bowlen opted not to hire a defensive-minded coach to beef up a unit that has underachieved for years, McDaniels plans to address that side of the ball by pursuing Eagles secondary coach Sean McDermott as the teams next defensive coordinator.

McDermotts name surfaced recently as a surprise candidate for the vacant defensive coordinator position in Green Bay.

But Mort points out that McDermott remains under contract for another year, which means that the Eagles can block him from leaving for anything other than a head-coaching job.

Moreover, the fact that the Eagles are still playing games makes McDermott completely off limits, possibly through February 1.

which team would you rather coach for? This is no competition... not a close one anyway.

^ Yes, it's true.

Schefter reported it on NFLN, and he has ties to the Broncos (he spent 15 years as a beat writer covering the Broncos).

I don't know how you can say it's not even close. The Packers and Broncos have a lot of similarities. Both teams have good ownership situations, rabid fan bases, and are in out-of-the-way places. Denver might have the edge because it is a much bigger city.

As a defensive Cordinator I'd prefer GB though. I mean, even when healthy the Broncos defense has only 4 good players. Bailey, Bly, Williams and Dumervil. The rest is all pretty average, especially along the D-line.

The Packers have the personnel to make it work, especially if we pick up some depth at D-line. We could easily get back to the 13-3 defense imo.

I hope McCarthy will get him soon though, or there'll be nothing but left-overs for us.

Two sides to that coin... I think we're all pretty glad we "got screwed" out of hiring Childress.

again, this statement was made a bit tongue in cheek. I was actually referring mainly to the players the DC will have to work with.

They've also had a lot more responsibility than McDermott has ever been entrusted with.
