What does everybody think of Michael Oher, the mammoth tackle from Ole Miss? Do you think he'll be available at #9? This got me thinking:

http://www.packerupdate.com/pu/2009/01/s.html

The Packers came thisclose to releasing pass rush specialist Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila before the start of the regular season. The same mistake won't be made with Chad Clifton. The coaches will keep a very close eye on the 32-year-old left tackle from the start of offseason workouts in March to the final exhibition game in August and make sure that an adequate replacement is already on the roster

I would love to have a franchise LT be drafted at #9. Everyone is saying Oher has the body and skills of an Orlando Pace. Signing this man would make me very happy.

I don't think he will be around for us at 9. The mock im looking at has 4 OT going in the top 8
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I have been researching OT and every draft I have seen has Oher gone in the top 5. But the good news is that there are 3 OT that are all pretty close and is a fairly good chance that one of them will be available at #9.

And if you think Oher is a monster, check out Andre Smith, now that is a monster at LT at 339. There is also Eugene Monroe who is close to Oher in size, and is projected with the same 40 times.

Any one of these 3 OT would be great picks for the Pack.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

If we can't draft a young guy, I hope we'll be in the running for Jordan Gross from Carolina.

There's a good chance Oher will be there. Coming into the season he was a lock for the top 3, but Andre Smith has definitely passed him as the top pro prospect in the country. Eugene Monroe and Jason Smith are also potential top 10 picks now too, so if Thomson wants Oher in Green Bay then it could very well happen.

It really depends on whether Oher or Monroe is ranked higher come draft time. Rams and Bengals are pretty much locks on picking OTs and Andre Smith will be the other OT taken.

I think he'll be around and I don't think the Packers should take him. The only team that would take him in the top ten in Oakland in my opinion because he fits their style of drafting.

Oher has skills, but he's inconsistent and takes plays off. I think he'll be a bust and when teams look at him on film they'll see similar things.

If he succeeds in the NFL, it will be as a right tackle.

This is what i see on the WalterFootball mock draft

2: St. Louis Rams: Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

6: Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

7: Oakland Raiders: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

8: Jacksonville Jaguars: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

So you see if it goes like they think there will be 4 ot off the board before we even draft.

I have a hard time thinking Jason Smith will be drafted that early. Jeremy Maclin would be a better choice for the Jags there. Also, if Jenkins is avaivable, Raiders will take him. I think they need OT more, but they need CB too and will take the best talent avaivable.

Edit: And it's also pretty pointless debating about whose gonna get drafted since we haven't even started FA yet.

I doubt Maclin goes in the top 10. First round talent for sure, but only elite receiver prospects go in the top 10 (unless you're the Vikes). They failed this year because the O-line was horrible, so Smith makes a ton of sense.

It's hard to speculate on what the Pack will do right now, since we don't even know what scheme will be run on defense.

beast (11h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (11h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (21h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (21h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (23h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
