I can't wait till next year to see what kind of exuses you all come up with to protect your precious Ted Thompson.

Well, if not next year, I'm sure we will have to defend the team as a whole in one of the following years - whichever one ends up being disappointing. And I can surely wait. It's already grown tedious.

I just love people who only "quote" what they want, so it will fit their agenda.

If you are going to quote me then quote the whole thing, then the partial quote you used would make a little more sense.

I didn't take a single part out of anything you were bringing across.

You said it bit Thompson in the butt when he didn't bring the QB back and got rid of other veteran players. What is taken out of context here? Nothing. I copied your entire quote for all to see before referencing below it.

By the way I love you too.

Buckeye - I'm one of the people who only quotes a certain part and the reason is to keep discourse flowing.

Some people will make 2 points and I'll take one part I want to argue with and quote that, then just say "and I agree with your other assertion" or something along those lines.

If you quote everything that one says, then the next guy quotes everything that person says and the person who quoted him, it would end up a huge mess.

As for Ted Thompson and MM, I firmly believe their jobs are safe in '09 but will be gone in '10 if we have another 6-10 season. Winning = job security. Losing, well...

easy, easy... we all know who agrees and doesn't w/Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy...
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I'm just sayin'...

"dfosterf" wrote:

Yes....thats true.
But the ones that are complaining now, saying "fall guys" are the SAME ones that complained when MM did nothing.
Now he overhauls the coaching unit that underperformed all season, and we have to deal with those "fall guys" comments.

You can't have it both ways.

Like i already stated, had MM stood pat with the D coaching unit, we'd hear the "MM is afraid to do anything! How can the Packers get any better if MM and Ted Thompson don't have the guts to make changes!?!?"

You KNOW thats what we would be hearing.

If we for some reason get rid of Winston Moss, here is a name to be in the pot for the linebackers coaching position. Lloyd Lee.

He was recently fired by the Bears. Here is an article about his firing:

So, we're talking about the defensive staff being fired. Right?

I half expected Lionel Washington to stick around. He's the only one that I can say that I "miss".

You guys should make a thread why Ted Thompson and Mike are so horrible in a non-shouting way or so, so we can see why they should go.

Anyway, with that article it seems more and more like Moss will become the DC though. Question is, will that create alot of changes? I mean, Moss doesn't agree with Sanders' scheme, but won't they still have a quite smilair coaching method and to a certain extend scheme? As they worked together for a while now. I guess we'll see later on.

Either The Pack got off to a good start or they came back from a deficit only to go into a defensive mode trying not to lose. Every week we usually lost those games.

Now I am sorry if some of you can't take a little sarcasm, with a hint of the truth.
Someone tell me how many more :500 season or below will you put up with until reality sets in and you realize changes are needed from the top down?
I'll say it again Mike Sherman was 20+ games over :500 his 1st four years as GM(his middle 4 years) when he was fired, what makes Ted Thompson so untouchable?
Ted Thompson has had it easy, his first 2 years anything bad was still being blamed on Mike Sherman, his 3rd year, great year 14-4, then he decides to go in a diferent direction with the QB, cut other veterans to make the team younger, and it all came back to bite him in the a---.
So IMHO and I think there are quite a few more who think this way...Ted you have 1 more year to get things back on track(and I don't mean 8-8), or you can get the hell out of Dodge and take Mike McCarthy with you.

"dd80forever" wrote:

Yeah, Sherman was so great he traded up (a 3rd and a 5th) to draft a punter IN THE 3RD ROUND, then carried TWO PUNTERS on the roster the whole year because his draft pick was a bust and he didn't want to cut him and admit his mistake.

You may be looking back fondly on those days, but I'm not. That was a looming train wreck. Sherman was a very good coach, but he sucked as a GM.

Since we have a bunch of people tossing scraps to the hungry troll, and since we're starting to get two-freaking-page-long quotes that are obnoxious to read, I'm going to lock this thread for a while until people's tempers cool down.

As for you, buckeyepackfan, we get it. You hate Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy. You've made your point. Now please move on. I have yet to read a single post of yours that wasn't dripping with some flavor of vitriol. Perhaps if you took a break of, oh, a month or so from the forum, you might return in a better frame of mind. Just a polite suggestion from a friendly moderator.

Perhaps the fact that Mike Sherman was so bad is why Ted Thompson gets somewhat of a free pass. He is better at talent evaluating than Mike Sherman, but comparing him to Sherman is done and over with or it should be. Sherman inherited a Brett Favre still in his prime and a dominating offensive line and running game and yet Green Bay never even hosted a playoff game in the divisional round so being a better GM than Mike Sherman isn't something I would brag about.

Ted Thompson's problem isn't to be better than Mike Sherman. His problem is to be better than the men running Minnesota, Detroit, and Chicago. Something you have to question right now at the very least.

Ted Thompson did something right to HELP get the team to the NFC Championship last year, but he also did a lot wrong in 2008 to HELP get the team to a 6-10 record.

The fact is GM's never hit on every pick or every move, but over the course of the year they have I would say "bat" over 300 on their moves and Ted Thompson did that in 07. He didn't in 2008.

If he doesn't again in 2009 then I think Ted Thompson will probably be out of job. We'll see what happens.
