My choice would be extending Bak for 3 more years. Then again it will depend on what the compensation is going to be. $20 million a year would be a bit much but it's better than the $40 million they are looking at in 2024.

This article is all about a bullshit issue showing the article writers stupidity about not knowing the difference between Cap Space and Salary Earnings.

For the first time on Bakhtiari's current contract he'll be earning less than $21.5 million in 2024, and now you want to consider getting rid of him? The reasoning is just plain stupid...

To simplify, the writer is stupidly suggesting a business should make their future decisions based on past sunk cost... why? Because they don't realize the cap is partly a sunk cost.


If you don't want to keep Bakhtiari for future items like he's getting older, you don't trust him to stay healthy, you want to get younger, you want to get cheaper contracts etc, there are lots of reasons to move on from Bakhtiari.... his past sunk cost are not one of them and Business should NEVER make future decisions based on sunk cost.

Also, I really don't think we have drafted/planned for life post Bakhtiari.   We don't even have a proven right tackle....heck, we don't even know who the starter is there.
Unless we get off to an abysmal start, I hope we don't trade him.

PS.  I agree with whoever it was who opined about the authors style of writing ala 3 thing that might happen, and you have to scroll through to get to the gist of his points instead of telling you up front, then amplifying.  Perhaps they make more money if you click on each successive page.  Regardless its irritating.
