Goes without saying that this seems to have McCarthy's finger prints over it; a couple of weeks after boldly stating he has no intention of retiring, he will return unless McCarthy says so otherwise ... well I don't really have to finish my thought do process, do I?

Here ya go, the quote and the article link after:

Asked whether he intends to stick around for many years to come, Stock said: "It all depends on one thing and one thing only: How long does he (McCarthy) want me to stay? That's what it depends on."

Special Teams regressed

It's the last line in the article.

Now we need Sanders to retire and good things will be in motion.

Wow, that's very telling if indeed it did have something to do with Stock's decision. All in all though, I think this was an interesting way to appease fans without having to "fire" anyone, but I don't think just changing a ST coach will fix all the problems we had.

Baby steps in the right direction. Hope the Packers keep the tide rolling and shake things up a bit deeper than this. This league is built on accountabilty and the defensive side of the ball needs a stern hard look.

I wish we never had to have a coach retire or resign, that would be a good thing.

Best of luck to him and I hope it works out for him wherever he ends up. Thanks for the time and effort he put into this team.

Hmm, this is from Florio over at PFT

Though our source has heard nothing definitive, the source was aware of the rumors that Stock, defensive coordinator Bob Sanders, defensive ends coach Carl Hairston, and offensive line coach James Campen could be gone.

It's funny how the four major scapegoats (defense, dline, oline and st) are all mentioned. They're definitely under heavy fire and scrutiny, that's for sure.

Baby steps? This is a huge step. If I had to list the order of reasons why we aren't in the playoffs, it would go.

1. Stock
2. Sanders
3. Injuries

We easily would have won 2 more games if we didn't give up so many points\yards that lead to easy points.

When you lose 7 games by 4 or less, field position and easy FGs allowed by special teams is HUGE, not baby, baby.

I'm not saying all is well now, but this was a huge step in the right direction.
