If the trade is not consummated before the draft, then we don't get a first rounder before the draft. So then if a trade is completed after the draft and if we got the Jets number 1 pick in 2024, the value of that 1st rounder will likely be lower.
If we hold him until after camp, he could simply retire or show back up. If he retires, aren't we on the hook for alot of money and dead cap? If he is not in Jets' camp, he is worth less to them....and them may just tell him to retire, then un-retire next year.
Perhaps I don't understand Rodgers options in the retire/un-retire scenario, but it would seem a very expensive option in the Jets come up with a plan B and he shows up for the money.

Is it possible that they have the compensation worked out but simply aren't going to execute the trade simply to mess with the other teams in the league in regard to draft scenarios
