NASHVILLE – The Titans have hired former Packers executive Chad Brinker as the team's assistant general manager. Brinker just finished his 13th season with the Packers and second as personnel/football administration executive. He was promoted to that position in January 2021 after spending three seasons as assistant director of pro scouting/salary cap analyst. Brinker originally joined the Packers as a scouting assistant in January 2010 before spending six seasons (2012-17) as a pro scout. "Chad brings a unique skill set to our franchise," Titans General Manager Ran Carthon said. "He has touched every facet of the personnel department – working in pro personnel, college scouting, cap management and analytics. We are excited to add his knowledge and experience to our evolving personnel group." According to the Packers media guide, in his most recent role Brinker helped direct the Packers' pro personnel department, which develops and executes the team's strategy for unrestricted free agency and the undrafted free agent process while also conducting year-round analysis of talent on other NFL rosters. His scope of work also included scouting future opponents, managing free agent visits and tryouts and monitoring NFL transactions. Brinker also worked with Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst and Executive Vice President/Director of Football Operations Russ Ball to incorporate long-range planning processes in areas such as player contract research and negotiation, salary-cap administration, roster management and the day-to-day operations of the player personnel department. Prior to his current role, the Packers media guide said Brinker served under former GM Ted Thompson for eight seasons, and in addition to his pro scouting duties, Brinker was also responsible for making 10-15 college visits each fall and attending college all-star games and pro days to evaluate draft-eligible prospects. Brinker, who entered the NFL in 2003 as an undrafted free-agent running back with the New York Jets, was a two-time All-Mid-American Conference selection at Ohio University at running back and he also competed for the Bobcats' track team.

That notwithstanding, do you (and others) think we do such a terrific job with the cap and FA?  I am not so sure we do.  If being a cap guru means kicking the can down the road by back loading contracts, the we seem to be doing a great job of that, but I am not sure our guys do anything better than an average job.

I am extremely open to be proven wrong on this one.

And as far as the back loading contract, part of that was always based on NFL cap handling of signing.bonuses which basically demands the signing bonus are back loaded. The other issue is the teams and agents automatically assume the cap will go up, which was true, until the COVID years. Which then it went down and teams had to mass release or kick contracts back further if they wanted to compete.

So Cap Guru is literally just telling your GM and team negotiators what the Cap situation is, but they could listen to you, or completely ignore you, they could choose to be conservative or aggressive no matter what you tell them, so people on the outside can't tell nothing...

Some team with a ton of cap space might have a horrible Cap person, but their GM is conservative or  trying prepare for a rebuild.

Teams like Saints might have a great Cap person, but their GM is infamous for being extremely over aggressive and never having any cap space.

So I don't think we can tell anything, other than what the GM and negotiator has done, not what the Cap people have done.

Zero2Cool (17m) : Jameson Williams is done at 24 years old? What? He's a WR, not QB. I'm missing something here haha
wpr (47m) : Tomorrow is almost here.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : would you want him if Pack needed a back up qb?
packerfanoutwest (1h) : JW is done......stick a fork in him
Zero2Cool (2h) : You should. He goes to AFC that helps Packers.
packerfanoutwest (13h) : don't care
Zero2Cool (18h) : Lions shopping Jameson Williams?
packerfanoutwest (22-Apr) : Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says Green Bay’s roster can win, even without adding anyone in the draft.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
