I could not agree more that the timing is bad.
That notwithstanding, do you (and others) think we do such a terrific job with the cap and FA? I am not so sure we do. If being a cap guru means kicking the can down the road by back loading contracts, the we seem to be doing a great job of that, but I am not sure our guys do anything better than an average job.
I am extremely open to be proven wrong on this one.

And as far as the back loading contract, part of that was always based on NFL cap handling of signing.bonuses which basically demands the signing bonus are back loaded. The other issue is the teams and agents automatically assume the cap will go up, which was true, until the COVID years. Which then it went down and teams had to mass release or kick contracts back further if they wanted to compete.
So Cap Guru is literally just telling your GM and team negotiators what the Cap situation is, but they could listen to you, or completely ignore you, they could choose to be conservative or aggressive no matter what you tell them, so people on the outside can't tell nothing...
Some team with a ton of cap space might have a horrible Cap person, but their GM is conservative or trying prepare for a rebuild.
Teams like Saints might have a great Cap person, but their GM is infamous for being extremely over aggressive and never having any cap space.
So I don't think we can tell anything, other than what the GM and negotiator has done, not what the Cap people have done.
