Hey, he seemed to be improving and getting back to full health with his right knee. last night near the end of regulation, he caught that ball on the sidelines to pick up a first down (you know, right before we ran 3 times then missed a FG). he went down clutching his right knee, then came off the field. mccarthy mentioned his injury in the post-game press conference, but didn't mention it today... anyone have news regarding this injury?

lame topic, i know. but, i'm not much of a thread starter. I consider myself more of a thread hijacker than thread starter. so, take it easy on me.

Yea, it is his first injury ever. It's a PCL injury, and I believe the PCL is what helps hold the shin bone in place along with the ACL. So when he gets hit bad enough, it slides the shin bone around causing pain and discomfort. It's probably something that he can rehab better over the offseason with enough time, but he shouldn't play in the Lions game in my opinion.

He's reaggravated it about 5 times this season now. There was a good article about this in one of the Madison papers.

http://www.individual.com/story.php?story=93879970

Here's a good excerpt about the injury:

PCL injuries are uncommon and often go undiagnosed, even though tears to the liagment can destabilize the knee.

The PCL prevents the tibia (shin bone) from sliding too far backward. Along with the ACL, which keeps the tibia from sliding too far forward, the PCL helps maintain the tibia in position below the femur (thigh bone).

Interesting to note that Jones stated there was a surgery for his injury, but for him the surgery (and I quote) "wasn't an option" because he didn't want to lose his season.

I think it's probably an injury that takes time to heal, and Jones hasn't given it enough time to fully heal. Every time it gets good enough that he can play with minimal discomfort, he lands awkwardly on the knee, reaggrevating the injury to some degree.

Probably stating the obvious up there.

I wonder if the coaches should spend more time with Jones practicing how to fall / go down, so he can better protect the knee when being tackled.

I would keep him out the last game, and have him get the surgery ASAP.
Why take a chance that this will happen again next year?

Heal up and give it hell next season.
