Here’s a bit of a surprise: the Packers are releasing 2020 fifth-round pick Kamal Martin, a source said.

Here I thought he'd be battling for 2nd ILB.

He's been 3rd string on the depth chart. I always assumed he would get a second season to prove himself. Especially so with a new DC that is LB focused. I guess that means they like what Burks has been doing this year. Perhaps McDuffie as well.

This is kind of a shocker to me!
I really felt that this kid had something to offer.
Certainly more than Summers.
Something doesn't smell right with this move.

I might be mistaken about this, so it might need this to be doubled checked, but it seems like he got released before ILBers Ray Wilborn and De'Jon Harris, whom he is more talented and versatile than...

So either he made a hell lot of mistakes (and STs were pretty bad, not saying that's on him, but I would be looking there) or he's in someone's dog house for something...

Or maybe he just wasn't picking up the system or showing horrible instincts. But if he got released before those last string ILBers, then there is an interesting story there... even if it's he was shitty on STs, instincts and/or attitude.

I would think there has to be a story we aren’t hearing about.
Maybe he said or did something that got him let go.
Or as was said, he wasn’t showing enough to warrant keeping him.
Maybe they are just so in need of roster spots to keep more WRs that they had to let someone go, and he was first on that list.
Or maybe he ticked off Aaron Rodgers. 😉😂

Maybe they thought he was a bad fit for the defense and special teams systems they plan to run this year, and did him a kindness by releasing him with time to catch on with a different team? Let's see if he does that and makes a 53 for some other team.

Kinda bummed they'd give up on him. Seemed like he brought some physicality and one of the few guys on D that could make a ballcarriers teeth rattle when tackling. But if you're out of position and missing tackles, that's not gonna matter much.
