Waiting until today to make these moves allowed the Packers to maintain the players’ eligibility to return this season, and they picked up a third-year cornerback in the meantime. Two members of the Green Bay Packers ’ initial 53-man roster for the 2020 season were highly unlikely to play in the team’s week one contest against the Minnesota Vikings  in seven days. On Monday afternoon, the team announced roster moves that confirm that will be the case, sending the two players to injured reserve.
Those two individuals are linebacker Kamal Martin  and cornerback Kabion Ento. Both players suffered injuries in training camp that will keep them out several weeks. However, placing a player on injured reserve prior to the cut-down deadline for a 53-man roster would mean that the player would be ineligible to return during the 2020 season. The Packers faced this issue last year with wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown .
Instead, keeping both players on the 53 and waiting until Sunday allows for them to return later this season. Changes to the injured reserve rules due to COVID-19 allow teams to bring an unlimited number of players back from injured reserve this season, and players must only spend three weeks on injured reserve prior to practicing with the team instead of six.
Martin, the team’s fifth-round draft pick, was fighting for a starting spot in the team’s base defense. He had impressed in training camp but suffered a knee injury in the team’s final scrimmage at Lambeau Field one week ago and underwent surgery on his meniscus shortly thereafter. He is expected to miss several weeks.
Ento, meanwhile, joined the team as an undrafted rookie in 2019 and made the switch from wide receiver in college to cornerback. Ento reportedly had surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot, but the team evidently feels that the injury is not serious enough to cost him the entire 2020 season. He spent all of last season on the practice squad.
In moving these two players to IR, the Packers gained two open roster spots on their 53-man roster. They elected to fill one of those two spots by signing cornerback Parry Nickerson .
Nickerson  is in his third year out of Tulane, and he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft  by the New York Jets . As a rookie, Nickerson  played in all 16 games with two starts, then was traded to the Seattle Seahawks  on cut-down day last summer. He then ended up on the Seahawks’ and Jaguars ’ practice squads throughout the early part of 2019 before earning a promotion to Jacksonville’s active roster for the last four games of the season. Nickerson remained in Jacksonville through the 2020 offseason; he landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list to start training camp, but came off the list a week later before being waived on Saturday.
Standing 5-foot-10 3/8 and weighing in at 182 pounds, Nickerson posted a blazing 40-yard dash time at the 2018 Combine at 4.32 seconds. In college, Nickerson recorded 16 interceptions and 31 pass breakups at Tulane, taking one pick back 96 yards for a touchdown against Southern University in 2016.
Nickerson now replaces Ento as the sixth cornerback on the Packers’ roster, joining Jaire Alexander , Kevin King , Chandon Sullivan , Josh Jackson , and Ka’Dar Hollman.
The Packers still have one open spot available on the 53-man roster after today’s roster moves.

As expected Martin and Ento were sent to the IR list. Signing Nickerson was not expected. Since he's been around for 2 seasons and with several teams it looks like he has some coverage issues. His speed will help on special teams, perhaps as a gunner but probably won't see much time on the field with the defense.

Clearly it hasn't worked yet in the pros, probably because he's small, not physical enough and didn't ever have to run zone coverage in college (which is mentally more complex), as they'd simply put him on an island and tell him to lock down a guy and being in the smaller school and could with no problems.

We also workouts OL Justin Britt, formerly of the Seahawks who has started 86 games, mostly at Center, but had spent some time at OG and RT before becoming the starting Center.

I was thinking about Samwise when reading about Nickerson. But since he's been on several teams thought the comparison might be premature. Then again with the right coach and scheme you never know.

Zero2Cool (18h) : I guess 3 games. Whatever
Zero2Cool (18h) : Bleh, that only impacts two games.
Zero2Cool (18h) : Packers are gonna get 3rd place division schedule next year.
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Kanata, seek help! lol
beast (21h) : I was rooting for the Bears to win and hurt their draft pick status
Zero2Cool (21h) : Forgot there was even a game last night haha
TheKanataThrilla (21h) : That was terrible.
TheKanataThrilla (21h) : Watching that game in its entirety yesterday is proof positive that I am a football addict.
beast (22h) : And horrible time management multiple times... and not being able to score more than 3 points on a team with talent
beast (22h) : Realizing the Bears didn't fix it from the previous week and do the same thing, getting the game to overtime
beast (22h) : They probably are not tanking, but they've absolutely mismanagement some things, such as Vikings seeing the Packers blocked FG and realizing
Zero2Cool (23h) : Crazy of Bears to have that mindset that is
Zero2Cool (23h) : Hail Mary stop away from 5 - 2. Not sure how that flips to tanking. Crazy mindset if true
beast (23h) : I've quietly questioned if Bears are tanking on purpose... they suddenly got a lot worse with some simple concepts like 101 clock management
wpr (27-Dec) : Watching bares fans melt down over how putrid their team is, so enjoyable. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
Mucky Tundra (27-Dec) : The Seattle Seahawks defeat the Chicago Bears 6-3. Jason Myers had 6 RBIs for Seattle while Cairo Santos had 3 RBI for Chicago
beast (27-Dec) : Not nessarily, he might of been injured either way. He's playing about 50% of the games the last 4 years
Zero2Cool (26-Dec) : If they'd been more patient with him, he'd be back already. Putting him out there vs Bears caused him to tweak it and here we are.
packerfanoutwest (26-Dec) : well this is his last season with the PAck, book it
beast (26-Dec) : Sounds like no Alexander (again), I'm wondering if his time with the Packers is done
Zero2Cool (26-Dec) : Could ban beast and I still don't think anyone catches him.
Mucky Tundra (26-Dec) : Houston getting dog walked by Baltimore
packerfanoutwest (25-Dec) : Feliz Navidad!
Zero2Cool (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas!
beast (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
