Maybe it's just a slow news day. Whatever the case, a report from ESPN that the NFL's owners are expected to add a 17th regular-season game this week is not news. Anyone who has been paying any attention to the NFL over the past few months knew that it wasn't just "expected' to happen, but [more]

Lame. I hope they make permanent the practice squad rules they had last season to help teams make it through the year.

Better yet, expand the active roster by 3-4 players. You would think the veterans, especially this year would push harder for something like this.

Also, I think 17 game season is stupid. Especially when they still have teams with BYE weeks so stupidly early in the season. It seems like having a BYE during Week 10 and Week 11 where each week has half the league on BYE would be such an easy improvement. Of course, that means ditching the waste of time Thursday games.

If I was an owner, I'd be requesting a late bye every single year. My understanding is that the NFL doesn't have to follow owner request, especially not muliple request, but if they have one, they generally attempt to fit in one.

I still say give the entire league off one week in the middle of the season. Thus no team gets an advantage.
No bye too early or too late.

And here we were with bye week starting week four going through week twelve. 🤦‍♂️

The NFL should start to understand the concept that distance makes the heart grow fonder. We won't die without football for one week, or if we have two weeks with just 8 games and no more Thursday games. We will survive! The NFL would thrive!

I enjoyed the opening sentence. Start off by saying player safety is high priority and then finishing the paragraph talking about the addition of one more regular season game.

The resolution that the NFL owners are expected to approve today, formally adding a 17th game to the regular season, confirms that now every team will play an overseas “home” game at least once every eight years. As a result, there’s no need to make it a requirement of hosting the Super Bowl.

“Once a 17-game season is implemented, effective as of the bidding process for Super Bowl LVIII, the obligation . . . of any Super Bowl host team to play an international game shall be eliminated for any future Super Bowl bidding processes,” the NFL resolution says.

So with the 17th game, teams will play overseas at least once every 8 years.

Packers are the only team that have not played in London in recent years, as no one was willing to give up a Packers games (and only the Steelers owner was willing to give up a Steelers home game) as their fans travel well and will pack out the stadiums.
