I can't imagine them not putting some kind of tender down on him. He had a good season without fans in the stands and there's a chance we'll have no (or limited) fans again. I'm still curious about the OL and how much I'm overvaluing that position relative to other positions.

@KenIngalls With the #Packers placing a 2nd round RFA Tender on Robert Tonyan they are now at around $7.7M over the cap currently - pending more information on Turner's restructure and Jones' new deal.

We are less than 27 hours away from the Packers needing to clear this cap deficit.

I don't see any other way this Tonyan situation could have played out. $3.4 mil is a pretty good deal for the Packers and gives them another year to see if Tonyan can be the #1 guy. Also they don't have enough money to give him a longterm deal so they can put that off until the cap goes back up next year.

Here is all the RFAs tenders

2nd round tender ($3.384 Mil one year deal)
TE Robert Tonyan, if another team signs Tonyan this offseason, the Packers can either match or take a 2nd round selection from that team. (I wonder what happens if they've already traded away their 2nd round pick, maybe their next available 2nd rounder?)...

But really, I doubt any team is going to be willing to give up a 2nd rounder for Tonyan on top of giving him a big money deal.

In fact, over the cap is reporting as if Tonyan has already signed it, which would be kinda surprising if it has really happened that fast, I wonder if that's an error or assumption.

Original Round ($2.133 Mil one year deal
CB Chandon Sullivan, Sullivan was undrafted, so basically if some team signs him, the Packers have the rights to match, and get nothing if they don't match it.

No Tender/Can sign with any team now and Packers don't have a right to match

S Raven Greene
DL Tyler Lancaster

Man, if Greene could have stayed healthy he could of been something. Then again they can always try to resign these guys for minimum, under tender price. Of course, Pettine, now on the Bears, probably know them pretty well.

I'm even more bummed now that they didn't at least give Boyle some chances to throw the rock in garbage time last year. I hope he goes outside the division, and gets a shot and doesn't look horrible.

Can you find out the answer to this? Can a team even offer a contract to someone on a 2nd round tender if they don't have a 2nd round pick? Does it elevate to 1st round? I must know!! This is an amazing question! DO NOT LEAVE US HANGIN!!

Glad you were able to quickly find the answer. I'm a bit surprised though, I would of thought they would of just taken the teams next available 2nd rounder.

Also, I'm now thinking this means if a team with the highest 2nd round pick #33 wanted to sign a player with a 2nd round tender...

They could trade that pick for #64 (the lowest 2nd round pick) and get some extra stuff.

Then sign said 2nd round tender and offer the lowest 2nd rounder instead of the highest.

I remember articles talked about something similar like that before. Though, I think it was a forfeiting a pick, where a team decided if we're forfeiting a pick to the NFL, we're going to make it lower and get a 6th rounder or something.
