I’m very sorry to hear about TT.
My youngest son texted me a little while ago and said he had heard that Ted had passed but could not confirm it.
Packers Home is the first place I came to look for confirmation.
Rest In Peace Ted!😌

Ted to me was a bit of a quandary for me personally.

He was a man of limited words spoken, played his cards close to the vest and more often than not was very effective in matching talent to team, and able to see the unpolished diamonds in the rough. He provided us with a consistently top end team with a shot yearly to go all the way.

But it was that same reserved nature that would frustrate the fan base, we didn't get that inside look many of the hardcore fans want. I wholeheartedly agreed with his stance of being the silent GM in terms of building the team, but so often wanted to understand more of the why's behind his moves.

Thanks for all the decisions you made for "my" team, rest easy.

He gave his all for the team. Who can ask for more?

I don't know how realistic it is for someone to demand complete devotion and attention to a job 24/7, but it sure sounds like Ted is as close as you could have gotten to achieving it.

I'll always remember a press conference by Ted after he released Justin Harrell and Ted expressly said Harrell wasn't to blame for being a bust / not performing; rather, Ted took ownership - actually saying "It's my fault" that Harrell didn't succeed in GB - for the Harrell pick not working out and a few times in the same conference reiterated Justin Harrell shouldn't be blamed. That's so, so classy - and I think offers a glimpse of the kind of person Ted was.

And this man was directly involved in getting two HOF QBs on his team. Most GMs can't land one in their lifetime; this guy had two on his teams (and I believe someone (Elliot Wolf?) had mentioned Ted absolutely loved Russell Wilson in his draft). He was an exceptional talent evaluator, got the right HC on his first try, found exceptional value later in the draft and undrafted free agency, and never handed out a bad contract that came back to haunt the Packers cap negatively. You really can't ask for more in terms of things an exceptional GM should do and Ted did them all really well.

My heart goes out to his family and loved ones - rest in power, Ted. More than for any other reason, I hope the Packers win the SB in honor of him because he deserves it.

(Also, a big 'F U' to Andrew Brandt (whose work and NFL insight I enjoy) - he has publicly and privately bashed Ted on different occasions over sour grapes for being let go by Ted. I'm surprised he had the audacity to label him a "wonderful man" when he's shit on Ted and implied Ted was psychotic in the past; pathetic.)

This passing is really bothering me more than I think it should. This just sucks. He was one of the really good dudes. Only cared about what was best for the organization and didn't show concern over the noise belittling him from ungrateful narrow minded fans. This just sucks.

MM's statement speaks to something I think most, if not all Packer fans, have known: Ted was a very classy, genuinely good person with very high integrity. Given his closeness to the Packers, I think that is why this hurts more than someone would suspect; it really seems like we lost a very, very good person.

I can’t help but wonder if his playing time caused his early death. Maybe concussions are what affected him.

Looking back at his drafts from 2005-2010, Ted gets about 3 quality players/starters and a decent role player in every draft. Had a neck injury not derailed Collin's career, Ted's first two picks would have been Hall of Famers. Also stings a little looking back and seeing the number of what ifs? What if Collins doesn't have his neck injury? What if Finley doesn't have his? What if Lacy had better self discipline? What if Jolly could have stayed clean? What if Matthews+Raji didn't peak in their 2nd seasons? His later drafts get heavily scrutinized for not panning out as well but considering the talent he drafted it feels looking back he was trying to capture lightening in the bottle twice.
