Packers OLB Kyler Fackrell led NFL in sack rate per 100 rushes in 2018

No player in the NFL had a higher sack rate per 100 pass rushes than Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Kyler Fackrell in 2018.

According to Sports Info Solutions, Fackrell registered an NFL-high 4.7 sacks per 100 pass rushes last season.

Fackrell finished the 2018 season with a career-high and team-high 10.5 sacks, which tied for the 17th most in the NFL.

His sack rate suggests a highly efficient but likely unsustainable level of production in terms of converting sacks. Fackrell was on the field for roughly 58 percent of the Packers’ defensive snaps and produced only 23 total pressures in 2018, meaning he made the absolute most of his limited opportunities and rarely missed a chance to turn a pressure into a sack.

Seems like Pettine likes these big run stuffers, but compensates for passing by scheming them to the QB. If he can get Fackrell home at such a highly consistent rate, what can he do with with the Smith Bros? I won't jinx Rashan with speculation, but I'm looking forward to some football!

Perfect scenario would be a 6 man rotation on the D line , Where the starters play about 60% of the time
Keeping them fresh all year.

Martinez will play most of the snaps, as will Alexander, Amos & Savage.

That leaves Pettine with the ability to send any number of different packages in to confuse the offense.
These edge guys are going to be playing everywhere and anywhere .

Gonna be fun!

I think they used Fackrell in a split coverage/blitz role, so the OT never knew for sure if he was coming or not, and made blitzes look like they were coming from the other side (using Fackrell in a coverage role, making the pass protector more comfortable) and then SURPRISE, Fackrell blitzes instead of dropping back. At least that's what I think happened, I haven't watched film to say for sure or anything.

It's simple for effective, but you need a power rusher than can threaten outside or inside.

I know this is labeled a 3-4 defense, but I really see it more as a 4-2 nickel defense, with the OLBers being stand-up 4-2 DEs. Also looking at it from only a number of positions kept, it looked more like a 4-3, with only 4 edge rusher kept and 5 traditional LBers.

I think Preston Smith could take some of Fackrell's snaps away, as Preston can do similar things but more versatile in being an every down pass rusher as well.
