...over the next couple of years. The obvious decision is to let Mike walk. But David is the best LT in football and will be paid like it, and Kenny Clark will also require a massive contract two years from now. What are the odds we can afford to keep both of them? With Rodgers resigned and the huge salaries we will be paying our shiny new pass rushers, I think the odds are slim. It's the slowest part of the off season now, let's discuss.

There is always the argument that the both of them are two premier talents that you sacrifice whoever you have to in order to keep them.

Or the Gruden argument where you trade said premier talent for a kings ransom rather than paying them.

These are the kinds of decisions I wouldn’t make until absolutely necessary. Too much can happen. Talent slide, major injury, and so on.

Or even the possibility that a young guy just outshines the older, more expensive player.
Or some team offers you just too much to say no to.
Trading away your best guys with no one to replace them leads to disaster.

Cutting Jimmy Graham with a post June 1st would free up 8m in cap space next year. Do we think he plays out the third year of his contract? Probably not if the rookie TE looks good.

Corey Linsley and Lane Taylor can be cut without massive dead cap hits in 2020 as well, so those guys might be on the hot seat if some of the younger OL develop.

Most of the other guys taking up high cap % are likely to be on the roster in 2020 it looks like.

How much cap space do they need to sign Baktiari, Daniels, and Clark? It looks like they've got 40m or so projected for 2020. That's plus maybe cutting a veteran or two probably gives them room to maneuver.

Well they are going to need to figure a way to pay both Clark and Bakhtiari as they really don't have anyone on the roster to replace what either of them brings. Perhaps they draft an OT next year to possibly replace Bakhtiari, but I would rather find a way to pay the man if we truly are in "win now" mode.

That's resigning our own guys, signing two entire draft classes plus some free agents. I don't think we will have nearly 60 by the time 2021 actually comes around.

That $64 million is using 2019's cap without any salary cap rollover from the 2020 season (probably won't have any).

We are going to be fine.
