Look at this Billy Turner signing. Kind of an "athletic" guy. Not one of these "bigger, stronger" types. Dude is here to ZONE block.

This ZBS thing will play to Spriggs' strength, which is athleticism. Could help him become the real deal. Spriggs' excuse (reason?) last year was that he gained 15lbs the previous offseason. Dude is nimble afoot. This new system could help him, imo.

Nerd,
I really really hope you are correct. I was happy the drafted him...I thought he could be Joe Thomas like. But at this point, I would have admit my desire to draft him may have been misguided.
The biggest issue with Spriggs, IMO, was not in run blocking, it was pass blocking. He has some decent games, but IIRC he struggled mightally against Mack (admittedly as many do.)
Again, I hope you are right. I also am hopeful, a different Offensive Line coach, as well as the different approach you mentioned, will help.

Speaking of Joe Thomas, the man is almost unrecognizable these days:

Think about it, my brothers: a handsome might be hiding under all that excess blubber you're schlepping around.

The 6'6" and 301 lb Spriggs is the back-up for OLT and ORT. He may not be an All-Pro, but he has game experience and may improve under the new GB offensive system. Until/unless someone comes along that is better he has my FULL SUPPORT.

What might change things is play calling, the Packers won't be running as many long pass plays and will be running the ball more.

Also maybe using a blocking TE to help out the RT.

I have been kind of disappointed in the lad. His pass blocking needs a lot of work. After being in the league for 3 seasons he still played like a UDFA much of the time. He's to hoping a new line coach will get him over the hump.

Perhaps Adam Stenavich has never been the head offensive line coach, but he has been coaching for a number of years.

Further, and more important, IMO for that last several years, we have not been able to run a four minute offense or pick up short yardage when it counted. Give the man a chance.

Moreover, part of problem has been play calling, but IMO part of it is technique and part execution.

I am happy the change has been made.
