What's the Salary Cap going to be in 2020? The CBA also expires after the 2020, that could also throw a wrench into things.

Either way, I see Aaron Rodgers not restructuring his $32 million cap hit for 2020. Taking around 17% of whatever (adjusted $188,200,000) the cap is gonna be is just a bit absurd.

Teams could be expecting an uncapped year but I think that has been addressed. I know when the CBA expired in 2010 (I think it was) it said right in there that if a new deal wasn't reached by a certain date 2011 was going to be uncapped but they still took steps to keep teams in line.

The problem with Rodgers' numbers is that if you restructure for more room in 2020 it just puts that much more pressure on subsequent years. His salary in 2020 is 1.1 million but he has a guaranteed roster bonus of 19.5 million. They could convert that to a signing bonus and gain about 15 million in cap space but that would add 4 million to his cap hit in each of the next 4 years.

I thought about this a bit more. While we may currently be at 28 million in space with only 31 guys signed we gotta remember we are still predraft. So let's assume it is really 22 million with 41 guys. Still horrible but sounds a tiny bit better.

Beast beheld:

That's what I finally realized Ted Thompson did for years... people say he didn't draft for need, but he did... just it was often next years FAs class... give them one year to work together and learn and then the FA might be let go.

A very interesting theory.

In a sense, that approach was the worst of both worlds.

Buckeye burrowed out:

The short end of it is that the uncapped year in 2010 was the result of the owners' unanimous decision to void the old CBA in favor of constructing a new one. A new agreement could not be reached by 2010, so the year was left uncapped.

An uncapped year would have provided a great place to dump salaries or signing bonuses for teams with deeper pockets, but the owners agreed to maintain the original cap in order to preserve parity.

Good Stuff... makes me wonder about planning for an uncapped year.

Agreed completely. Fully expecting to be irrelevant once Aaron retires. What's 10 mill in cap space while he is gone? Still gets his money.

This all for Aaron. I don't ever wanna hear about how the franchise has let Aaron down again. This is ALL for him

Mike got his way last year, fell flat on his face. This time, Aaron got HIS way. And Mike isn't here to tank his chance.

Put up or shut up, Aaron.

Per Tex Western

Packers have less than $5 million in salary cap space after errors identified, per report

Perhaps this is why they didn’t make more of an effort on Breeland.

Apparently there were some errors in calculating our cap space for this year. I will start a new thread on THAT one.

Zero2Cool (9h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (9h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (12h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (13h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you
wpr (13h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (13h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (13h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (13h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (14h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (14h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
