Officials are an ever present part of all sports. Most do their best to be fair and impartial judges of the rules and any violations of the rules that they see. Baseball Umpires have been and will always be questioned for their Ball/Strike calls. Basketball Referees often make judgement calls on what they see as a foul. Football too has calls that leave everyone scratching their heads.

I have witnessed live as well as televised calls from officials, that I personally observed from the best angle, that were flat out wrong and the official knew they made the wrong call. At no time ever have I seen an official reverse them self. I've seen calls overruled by a higher level official or through video replay evidence.

I once witnessed an official make a bad call at a High School football game that resulted in a loss for the home team. Following the game as I was approaching my car, I turned to see three of the officials trying to sneak out to their cars. I stared at them trying to conceal themselves with jackets on and clustered together as they tried to hurry away. One of the men looked right at me and then lowered his head in shame as they passed on their way. I said nothing to them, but their guilt was evident.

Share your stories/witnessed bad calls here in this thread. [nohair]

Maybe it had nothing to do with shame, and more to do with trying to get away before someone attacked them.
I ref’ed a high school football game once. A kid caught a touchdown pass and I signaled it as such. I was in the end zone and saw it clearly. The coach from the other team started screaming at me for several minutes. He wasn’t close to the endzone, and kept yelling. And it wasn’t like it was a game changing call. His team was getting beat badly. After the game he did come up to me and apologize for his actions, but he still felt I was wrong.
So I can see why refs try to get away from a possible fight by trying to “hide” from the fans.
You never know how far some ticked off fan might go.

Those officials violated their oaths to be impartial and they knew it.

Your one game as an official, while interesting, is not what this thread is looking for. I've seen many games (not just football) where the momentum or the field position or the outcome could be traced to a bad call from an official. It may only happen on 1 in 10,000 plays, but they DO OCCUR.

Of COURSE bad calls get made! My point is, the officials are only human, and make mistakes. To vilify them isn’t fair. They don’t have instant replay to help like in the pros.
And it’s not easy. I learned that in my one game. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of just how easy it is to get abused while trying to do s job no one really wants.
You seem to want to make refs out to be miserable cheaters that make bad calls on purpose.
There are thousands of ball games every year around the country. To expect them to be perfect is asking too much.
Try reffing a game, then judge them. You would see it’s not so easy.

A foul called/not called at a critical point in a basketball game can make all the difference if your a sports bookie.

99% of officials are not "miserable cheaters", but saying that none ever are is just hiding your head in the sand. It is rare that an official is exposed for bad behavior, but for every official exposed, how many more are there that don't get caught.

As for personal officiating experience, I've umpired baseball games and know that all calls will not be applauded 100% of the time. However at the college and pro levels the stakes get higher and greed can never be eliminated from the final analysis.

Did I say that no refs are bad???
No, I didn’t.
I don’t know....seems that you just like to argue with me.
I never said that ALL refs are honest. Just like ANY job, there can be bad people.

I've seen players and their managers both loose their heads over an Umpire's obviously wrong call. They both protested so much that both got ejected from the game.

To be frank with you for a number of years, it seemed like the Packers were the beneficiaries of too many calls. I think the pendulum is turned in for some reason, we are somewhat out of favor, or at the very least, less favored than we were.

Most of the posters here are spot on with their analysis. The great majority of officials do great work...or at least try to. But they are only people, with flaws, imperfections, and who are subject to temptation. Some succumb to that temptation.

“Return balls”???
Did I say anything wrong? Did I say YOU were wrong?
No, I just gave possible explanations as to the refs that YOU thought were slinking away because you thought they purposely blew a call.
I guess when you have your opinion on something, you think you just HAVE to be right. And if I dare to give another very real possibility, I’m somehow (in your mind) attacking your position.

Remember when you first came here? You attacked me. It took the other regulars here to stop it.
You need to accept that in something like this thread you started, which is based only on your opinion, that there are others with just as valid opinions.
If you can’t accept that, you shouldn’t post.
Maybe you should have named this thread “only post here if you agree 100% with me, or I will attack you”
That would be more realistic.

TheKanataThrilla (16m) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (20h) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (20h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
