What's this about? Maybe this is why they grabbed that obscure WR?

Why the hell is a receiver who's six-foot-six retiring in just his second year? What kind of job could he possibly have lined up that would be more lucrative than playing for the NFL veteran minimum?

But I agree, this was a shocker as I thought he might be able to be able to become an important role player. Of course I did read this, which suggest that in mini-camp, he was behind Yancey and Moore. If so, then maybe he saw the writing on the wall, or doesn't love it, didn't want to fight for it?

At minicamp, even with Randall Cobb excused and Geronimo Allison injured, the No. 1 three-receiver package featured Davante Adams, Yancey and rookie J’Mon Moore. That was surprisingly low on the pecking order for a player who looked like an ascending player.

Though I have really been surprised at the amount of players across the league that have been signed and retiring before camp. Not even going try to battle it out through camp.

-Practice squad players don't make that much cash if he has a decent job offer outside of football he could be making comparable bucks right away.

-His switch to football was always more of an experiment a player his size who's so raw probably fails 90% of the time.

-With Yancey and the 3 rooks he probably knew his odds of making the 53 were tiny.

-Possible injury concern

Just some reasons off the top of my head Clark may have decided to retire.

Edit: 7200 per week is about 30% more than I thought they made. 120k a year is not too shabby but no guarantee he makes it this year. If he landed a job paying 70k+ with potential advancement it wouldn't be too bad. Nice making money via your mind instead of sacrificing your body.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
